Chris Wilson is a genius who couldn't...
Greetings
There is such a sacred truth: - the more complicated an activity is, the more interesting it should be. God forbid the process becomes more complicated than its beauty - the activity will stop. Beauty subconsciously forces a person to act: - in the process of perception of visual aesthetics endophins are produced - and once having once tasted the process and received endorphin a person cannot stop. Why Chris Wilson is a genius - because he created a game where there is logical beauty - beauty build - for example pasiive skill network - excellent!!!!. But why he couldn't - because he didn't realize that logical aesthetics should - equally - be accompanied by sound and visual aesthetics - that's why wolcen is so beautiful and Path of Exile is basically ugly except for a few visual effects. Enough is overkill - stop developing logical aestheticsl!!!!! Stop making leagues and evolving mechanics - yes it's brilliant but it's overkill - the logical aesthetic in path of Exile has long since overtaken the visual aesthetic. No one will not remake the game but you can make beautiful portals and effects for active skills - it's the basic perception of the eye Chris Wilson is a genius who couldn't... *** Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) *** Last bumped on Oct 12, 2024, 2:33:40 PM

" I don't think that GGG don't understand the value in it. It's just not their sole focus. As apposed to other games in the genre that think aesthetics make the game and mechanics are an after thought. How's Wolcen going? I know people where happy with the aesthetics in that game, but players weren't talking about that on launch, they were asking why the game mechanics didn't work. Did they end up fixing it so the game was playable enough to enjoy graphics? If you listen to some of CW's interviews talking about the inception of the art design, I think he is quite happy with it. If you are talking about slapping a bunch of MTX on top of that and lack of visual skill clarity, I don't disagree that the visual theme could be improved in that regard. Also have to remember the game is 10 years old and they had limitations in the creation. On launch I had no issues with the graphics. I was much more concerned about the desync. I am less interested in them doing an overhaul to the games graphics than making good leagues and mechanics. I think they could make the game play a bit smoother and if they did improved the graphics I wouldn't be against it, but there is a pretty long list of things I would update before that. They have done some updates on the graphics along the way. It is improved if you compare it with old videos. Games don't typically get a huge overhaul to graphics after release. You might be expecting a bit much on that one. POE2 looks relatively similar to POE1 visually from what I've seen. They may be focused somewhat on Mechanics over the aesthetic again. I think that is what people expect. Focus on the mechanics has been very successful. I also don't think there is a big gap between the POE graphics and graphic of other ARPG's. In some aspects, POE have done a better job even without it being the main focus. There is a recent thread about POE lore, something I haven't paid any attention to, but just reading that short thread you get the idea that a lot of thought has gone into it and they've done their own unique thing. Something that gets taken for granted because the story isn't front and center during the gameplay. Sound is pretty good I think. Music, dialogue, combat noise feedback. I don't really have a complaint with that. Things can always be improved, but I wouldn't say it is a shortcoming. I just think the game could run a bit smoother. Not everyone would even agree with that. I made a thread about liking the waypoints activation being smooth, I guess some people don't like all updates, particularly if they change gameplay. I don't think everyone would be onboard with a visual overhaul. They added graphical portraits to some NPC, which I didn't particularly like. A lot of people probably like those, it's hard to please everybody. I didn't play it, but from what I saw, the people who did the graphics update on D2R seemed to do quite a good job. Maybe there is some techniques that were used there that can be looked at but I don't think there is a need to update POE1 graphics currently. They should be more focused on POE2's aesthetics and how they will hold up in 10 years, which I assume is what they are doing, even if focused on the game mechanics. Wolcen also had like half the skill tree not working at launch and half the actual skills being uselessat launch.
They also had an year without communication and then just shut down the servers recently. |

" Is it still playable? I think I own it, but have only played a few minutes. The thing that actually made me stop play, was not bugs, I didn't get that far. There was just too much story line going on at the start of the game. I was watching a story, not playing the game. Again, some people probably like this, it was just too time consuming early on to hook me in. If it is still playable I might try it at some point, heard they fixed a lot of the bugs. It looked like the game had a lot of good concepts, just maybe didn't achieve what they were going for. I can't really comment as I was still in the introduction I believe. I likely would of played it a lot more if it came out earlier and wasn't in competition with POE at the time. Last edited by Belegur85 on Oct 1, 2024, 6:54:57 PM

" Thank you for sharing your point of view - it was interesting. But it should be noted that you touched on a lot of topics and referenced information that I can't verify. Although again I will say that I have a lot of respect for some of your interesting thoughts. Let's list the facts that you can find on the internet with due diligence: 1. Beautiful things produce endorphins. 2. If a game is very difficult and ugly - no one will play it. Then you will ask a logical question - if Path of Eile is ugly then why it is not played. - I answer very strong logical beauty. I for example after playing POE1 started looking for games with passive skill network being fascinated by this technology. 3. The process of playing is tension and if the game is not beautiful, the tension is not compensated by endorphins because they are not enough. Logical endorphins are not enough, that's why we need multimedia MTX endorphins in addition. Assumptions Perhaps the excessive logical aesthetics have somehow remained over the years. I almost can't look at passive skill ntwork because “I ate all the good stuff that was in it”. I'm not suggesting to remake the graphics of an old game, but some MTXs are very beautiful but there are only 3-4 of them. Drawing beautiful MTXs is the easiest way to make the game more attractive. *** Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) *** Last edited by Staglaitor_ on Oct 1, 2024, 10:58:42 AM

" What is this? Are you trying to train AI on the forum or something? Not sure if you are referencing or advertising the translator, but this section of the forum relates to gameplay mechanics, not a philosophical conversation about game development. More so questions like you have about your vaal skills. General discussion might be a better section. Last edited by Belegur85 on Oct 1, 2024, 11:51:02 AM

" All their threads are very weird and confusing. First I thought it's because of the translation, but after a while now I really don't know what's happening. It might actually be a bot/ai or just a troll, not sure. Last edited by Sadaukar on Oct 1, 2024, 2:50:45 PM

What is your native language OP? I think it's possible you have some nuanced thoughts and the translator is struggling with the language barrier. Alternatively this is generated text based off prompt input. DeepL sounds like it is extrapolating based on some AI learning model. I agree with Sadaukar that while your post generally make partial sense, they have a lot of wording in them that makes them hard to understand. If the translator you are using is using some sort of "intelligence algorithm", using a more basic direct translation might make your post easier for the reader to understand. It's possible that it is just not and easy language to translate between. Apologies if I am being rude in any way. It just sounds like we are responding to AI.

" It might actually be a bot/ai or just a troll, not sure.[/quote] ---------------------------my reply --------------------------------------------------- I run a column on this forum with my commercial organization - 42 issues. You really believe I'm a troll? - Are any reasonable people sure I'm a troll? If you go through the whole series of publications you will see the idea of relocatable nodes-networking - like in Houdini by sidefx - so you can assume that the cluster jewel would have been invented by us. PS In code of conduct it says you must be constructive (aesthetics and endorphins) or you will be banned. Last edited by Staglaitor_ on Oct 2, 2024, 2:46:05 AM
