Block for All 2h Weapons

It would be nice if there were some new base types of 2h swords, axes, maces, that offered block as an implicit, and/or as a mod that could be rolled on them.

Or maybe 2h weapons could gain access to new passive nodes like +max fort +Armour/Evasion while wielding a 2h weapon?

I guess defensive options for 2h weapons are very limited at the moment and even though I would like to use a 2h axe/sword/mace it's just not worth the defensive sacrifice.

Cheers & Thanks for reading, keep up the great work!

what would be the point of staves if other 2h weapons could block?

i could see it as an ascendancy Keystone, Gladiator Determined Survivor:

Inherent Bonuses from Dual Wielding are doubled
Gain 50% Chance to Block from Equipped Shield instead of the Shield's value
+2 to max block / spell block while using 2h weapons

I could see something baked into the style of using 1 weapon and no shield. This would buff staves in addition to other 2h weapons, as well as anyone who used 1 1h weapon without a shield.

Maybe something like:
+10% chance to gain fort on short ranged hit.
OR
+5% move and +5 max fort
2h weapons have more base DPS than 1-handed weapons. What would even be the point of doing sword-and-board if 2h weapons have block as well as better DPS?
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

100% what Pizz says here.

Op... just because 2h (non staff) cannot use block does not mean they lack defense. You have to learn what to scale instead, a lot was added/changed this league to address this issue.

Both heavy strike and slammer ran into no issues and were more tank than anything I have made prior to this league.

the way i see it. 2handers always fall behind in arpgs.

its easy to increase flat damage.
increasing base crit is more difficult.
increasing base attack speed is impossible.

the counterpoint is if you play 2 handers and use slams you outright 1 shot bosses.

but that said i would like it if 2 handers had some base defences such as flat life.

i m opposed to 2 handers all having base block as that's the specialty of staves.

i would say 2 handers need some innate ability to give them something back for their risky game play.

innate leech? innate regen? innate rage gain?

tbh i dont know and at this point i really dont care too much about it anymore.

All this 2h Vs 1h Vs Staves.

We already have things such as the tiger hook and other practical weapons that would (in reality) provide parry/blocking capability that other similar weapons weren't designed for so i think that this idea to have a sword or two handed even one handed weapon that can provide a substantial amount of block versus a standard weapon only designed for damage dealing is not unreasonable.

To have this sort of thing wouldn't be too weird but i would have it come with some limitations or requirements similar to this old post on adding some sheaths and scabbards that would add options for some of these defensive features.

Types of items:
-1&2 handed scabbards
Scabbards would give the same general types of bonuses a quiver could give but with a lean towards melee type stats similar to how a quiver works and scabbards are only available to use with sword/dagger/twohandedsword etc

One handed scabbards are only available while weilding a single one handed weapon.

-1&2handed Sigils
sigils are small magical shields that like a quiver or scabbard would give small bonuses to various magical stats and perhaps provide ward or energy shield as possible rolls and these are only available for use with wands and staves.

Sigils are an one-size-fits-all situation and likely do not have the same level of buffs that melee scabbards/sheathes would have.

-1&2Handed Sheathes
Sheathes are just like scabbards but provide slightly different melee bonuses and are for axes and other weapons that can not realistically have a proper scabbard.

as with scabbards one handed sheathes only work while wielding a single one handed weapon compatible with a sheath.

Dual Wield has overall dps that is not that far off from a 2h weapon. The difference between 2h dps and 1h+sheild is not large enough to offset a 75% block chance. I use a 2h weapon because I use multiple attack skills (and style) but my dual weapon builds and builds with block did a lot of the work needed to equip the 2h build to solo.

Block may not be the answer but there should be some benefit to getting up close and personal without a shield.
