Incident Report for Today's Deploy

Thanks for such a detailed explanation. I am a software engineer and your explanation is very well presented and understandable. Letting users know about such issues is very important.
Thank you for transparency. Take the time.
10/10 on communication and honesty. Thank you.

This though.. c'mon guys, this has to be the statement of the year from a software development perspective:
"but this occurred in an area of the code base that was designed to be exception free"

:D :D :D

Made my day, thanks. I hope you realize by now, how silly that sounds. I mean, sure ... any sensible developer designs their software to be "exception free". They can even think that there's no way that piece of code can fail.

Some of your senior guys should have been able to tell you, how and when that code will fail. They might have thought that it "should never happen", as the username will never be longer than X, because the UI doesn't allow that, or the middle layer doesn't allow that, or any other "BS" reason based on assumptions awaiting to be proven wrong.

Now it is possible the code in question was written by a less experienced guy, or the senior in charge of the piece have not yet had the experience of how their assumptions can and will be broken, so they didn't prepare for it.

Well, the good news is, that now they have experienced it, and from now on they'll prepare for it. That's the circle of life in software development. Any developer can fall victim of an exception or error once. A good developer will not fall victim to the same error twice. :) Which is why you want seniors to design your important code.

Again, thanks for the info and hey, can't wait to see POE2 a few weeks down the line. Oh and before you stress out, I don't expect to play it on the release night (or morning) :) I'll be all the more happy if I still can.

Expectations managed, baby.
TAKE OUR ENERGY GGG!
Thank you for the update! I very much like this transparency. Keep up the good work!

Although I think every player like myself (currently in Brazil) that couldn't play during the down time between our 18-24pm might have felt confused and anxious to play, we appreciate knowing what is happening.

Despite the recent unfortunate incidents, I admire your transparency with the GGG community.

Should be "GGG PC community", because PS4 is still down with the standard radio silence. We got a "will take longer" over 12 hours ago. Ps5 constant freezes and crashes since league start with nothing more than one "the new client will fix this" which was still 6 weeks out, then didn't fix much if anything.

I'm glad the PC users are happy and I'm glad that GGG made this statement I just wish people were a little more aware of how second class some of your fellow players felt.

I love this game and want to play it.

PS4. That IS the issue. They likely have to detail every ioto of data with the Sony staff first, sony is notorious for being jackasses for patches and likely even more so on a rollback. Sony is keeping it offline more than likely until GGG does a full on 12 hour debate with them.

Solution. Get rid of Sony and use a PC :D

Edit. Did you read the forums about having to uninstall and re-install on Consoles? They can't revert the patch, you need to reinstall.

Sorry, but is the game still down or is it just on my end?

If you're on console you have to uninstall the game and re-install it. They can't revert rollback on consoles.

Have you tried creating QA department
rather than writing posts with constant apologies?

can you explain in general the decision to merge the databases of 2 different games into one. in terms of security, differentiation and fault tolerance. as well as the impact of poe2 on poe1.
am i right in understanding that any problem in the database and technical work takes BOTH games?

shared microtransactions in both games is one of the main ones, if you supported GGG and bought a supporter pack that includes a cosmetic armour, you will be able to use said cosmetics in both games on the same account

and what did you mean by that?
there was never such a condition(since 2017, only in 2024 I heard about this feature. Did I miss it?). but there was a condition that these were two different games.
well okay... you screamed like a adult male that you wanted to see cosmetics from game 1 in game 2 - for some fantastic reason... - do you think "ctrl+c ctrl+v" will help you? (and you don’t even have to do any maintenance, shift dates into the void, and apologize.)

Yeah. Weirdly the people who played the game since Early Access POE1 were taken into account and originally they were to be interconnected in a way that you could use your poe1 characters on poe2. That wasn't possible, so they decided to allow people to use their microtransactions and stash tabs on poe2. Since those who actually paid into the game for many years helped make POE 2 possible I think that is pretty fair of GGG.

Nobody 'screamed' for this. It was GGG who decided not to rip off their supporters and to make it an easy choice for legacy players to go look at POE 2. We already paid for it. It's the players who haven't paid into the game who are bitching about it as it doesn't affect them. When you've paid upwards of £3000 into poe since 2012, hell yeah I want my stash tabs and don't want to have to pay for them again.

If you had read the patch notes, you'd also know that there are too many indiviual account names and its blocking people from making new accounts. They need to fix that by adding a tag to the account name so new accounts don't have to spend half hour trying to find a name to use. This is standard practice in games now and GGG is simply updating their database to allow for it. While they are integrating POE 2 into the system they might as well do the name convention update at the same time.

Basically. stop bitching. suck it up. We paid for our shit and GGG wants to let us have use of it.
