Well...
It looks like the new patch put us back at square one. It gives errors on the login screen.
Not runnable anymore, I could actually play yesterday. While textures were not loading and mobs monsters were invisible, it was playable and not crashing.
Now... back at the usual.
Which errors are you referring to - a Patch Update or the File damaged error ?

The error for now is "there has been a patch that you need to update to. Please restart Path of Exile".
There is no update pending After the last hot fix (6?) it become like this, it does not connect. Or better, it connects and gets instant "unexpected disconnection".

Someone posted this in another forum. Maybe try it out
1) Go to /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/ and delete the file Path of Exile.app if it exists
2) Run the installer
3) Run Path of Exile.app from your /Applications folder
4) It will say you need to move the Path of Exile.app file to the trash - click OK or confirm or whatever does that
5) Look in /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Path of Exile/ for the update.dat file (note - if the Path of Exile.app file is still here, the update.dat file probably won't be... move that .app file to the trash and run the main Path of Exile.app from the /Applications folder again)
6) Change the update.dat file name to update.zip and open it
7) Run the Path of Exile.app file that it creates

Don't get me wrong.. I appreciate the community effort to find all this crazy workarounds.
But, what the hell...
I don't want to download a standalone version the game let alone a windows client. I don't want to install emulator software. I don't want to move game files in the trash and out of it, copy files around or rename them. I also don't want to manipulate game files via text editor or terminal..
I want to launch steam, press the play button and start the game like intended..
If some of this workarounds function, the problem should be narrowed down significantly by now. What the hell you waiting for. It can't be that hard. For christ sake, lock up a nerd in the basement. Feed him red bull and pizza until this damn problem is fixed..
A week now and nothing. no fix. no communication.
Its beyond ridiculous.

nope, not working :\
I do that for every patch, this one always gives the same error:
"there has been a patch that you need to update to. Please restart Path of Exile".

yep
and the fact that there is a workaround and they work fine (i guess)
means it is not so difficult to fix it with a patch?
