Single player game = Early Access

" If they respect ladders and competitive gaming, they should send that message. This is EA. It's buggy. It's unfinished. It's not totally balanced. It just isn't what it's supposed to be just yet. Needless to say, it's not a good environment for fair competitions - yet. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" With over six months of early access state without any ranking / ladder system and where PoE1 is and has been this year defines the company. Honestly, I'm so looking forward for someone else to step up within the industry and seize the opportunity while the market is saturated with single player game releases. GGG could definitely test and advertise a new, different and improved ladder / ranking system through the six plus months of early access and more importantly improve or maintain a positive relationship with my market that would happily spend $30 and more supporting the company through the next year. |

" Single player ha s been shown on the last decade to bring the largest return of investment for companies. The MMO age of everything being multiplayer is past and gone. I doubt you will see much investment focused on MP except ont he game genres that have a particularly high ROI with MP (like FPS, MOBAs etc...) |

@Urza_Mechwalker: "The MMO age of everything being multiplayer is past and gone"
As a consumer with $90 USD total spent on all new releases since Jan 11th, 2011 proves that it's not past or gone. If I was producing a product for the sole purpose to sell, the tens of thousands who've been involved in the gaming industry to achieve that definitely failed with me. If anything the only reason I see my market buying and playing the early access (at least during the holiday season) is out of desperation for something, anything to play and GGG being aware of what their product is in its state with the reasonable $30 price tag. It can be challenging to play a single player game with the same formula I've already played endless times before. Last edited by Kopogero#0635 on Nov 29, 2024, 10:06:03 AM

" You think your single instance overrules the data from all the market? These companies do real research. I left the Gaming Industry during the pandemic, but the data was clear as crystal. Single player games result in larger ROI. For each one of you that spent little on SP games, there are people that spent several thousand USD in SP games. MP, high interaction games are more expensive to develop and they are not keeping public as they once did in the past. New generations seems to have a much shorter attention span. |

They will most likely have some sort of EA races and ladders at some point before full release.
They had this kind of stuff in Closed Beta. They routinely had races and various events during closed beta of PoE 1. Heck I won a Demigod's Presence in a HC race to 70 at some point in Closed Beta. It might not as soon as EA drops, but they will do events, races, and ladders; they did it in Closed Beta. They reset the ladders a lot, too. Personally i dont need to have a ladder in the first iteration of Beta Early Access testing.
I wouldn't mind if it existed, back in PoE1 beta i was actively participating in the ladder was 5th 100, was there with Havoc when he did the first 100. It was really cool times. However, a ladder DOES incentive people to abuse as much as possible, giving GGG even more visibility on things that should be fixed/changed/nerfed. Which is a STRONG ARGUMENT, for having a ladder IMO. Beta early access is the time to give strong incentives to your testers to abuse and break as much as possible before the official game comes out. This is a really powerful incentive for people to help GGG with finding abusable stuff. Last edited by BuDiu#0138 on Nov 29, 2024, 12:38:25 PM

@BuDiu
The reduced exp post campaign is good news, now even if GGG doesn't promote / feature exp or other ranking meter, hopefully alternative site can track it, still this is on GGG to do. Yes, like I stated above the ladder is needed in the early access as well for overall a better and less abusive competition later on. Whatever they're going to do and when, it would be a big letdown if PoE2 will end up a single player game for over half a year, while PoE1 next league is three months ahead as well. I've learned the hard way that its less with consumer spending (voting with our wallets) and a lot more with being fortunate to be a part of a world where others make their vision come true, while we get to further enjoy and support it. As a someone who completed most single player games from the early 90s once I got my PC early 2000 I experienced the golden age in online gaming and never bought another console again. This type of response https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3591346 on a single yet important question with couple of days before early access release confirms the most what's being discussed in this thread. After finding out that EXP gains past the campaign are reduced (unlike PoE) the early access exp ladder would be more appealing and lasting longer than few weeks.
Research and preparation on whatever info is currently available is time consuming so I'm sure myself and others who look would to participate in the early access solely to compete would like this simple question answered now. I can't think of a good reason why they would not answer this, unless the early access is indeed going to be a single player exp (at least for a while). With days before early access release the endless other single player games I've played starting as early as three decades ago (with some link examples below) offered a superior exp when compared to PoE2 that's the same game (using the same formula), which is explore / overcome the theme park through combat, except at the end I could see the score and initials of others or write my own at the local arcade, that is if I could achieve higher score / rank. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RKnGLzoidLg https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vhreDP1sG7Y Last edited by Kopogero#0635 on Dec 2, 2024, 8:14:23 AM
