Why do people need standalone? They give keys for both Steam and Epic even if you bought the game directly from the website and their content servers are beasts. Certainly much faster than standalone

Because it's one thing more that might go wrong.
Because some people don't want Steam/Epic Launcher running in the background needlessly wasting CPU/RAM.
Because some people want to ensure every penny of their money goes to GGG, rather than Valve/Epic.
Because download speed hardly matters when we can't start playing before 7PM GMT anyway.

You don't need to use Steam when things get stable if your PC can't handle 200MB of extra RAM usage and 2-3% more CPU usage. You can use their standalone client later.

It wont matter if you buy it on their website, Steam or Epic. You did notice that you get keys anyway for all platforms, right? So they get their cut anyway. Its their agreement.

About the download speed, look are the crashes of the SA client and start over.

I hope they do a wipe in the morning before launch.. so not cool to have global locked names and more importantly the achievements for "first" and the people on Xbox got to login, claim names, and play a few minutes already.

This is a preload...not a pre release until tomorrow.

Exactly! but console people did get to play a few minutes before they took the server back down.. another oops from someone at ggg.
Just wanted to do a PSA for those complaining it defualts to C drive, after opening the installer there is an "Options" button that lets you choose the path, just set up a place for it on your desired drive.

STEAM USERS:

As has been said 100's of times in this thread, the ability to pre-load a game that is in Early Access is restricted by STEAM ITSELF, and NOT GGG.

Steam/Valve has NEVER allowed pre-loading of Early Access games.

There is a work around, however.

Download the stand alone client so that you're ready to play when the servers open tomorrow. Then add the PoE2 client to your Steam library as a "non Steam Game." Now you get all the functionality of using Steam to launch PoE2, etc.

After EA opens tomorrow, and when it's convenient for you, you can then remove PoE 2 from your Steam library and uninstall the game. At this point, redeem your Steam key from your PoE2 account, and download PoE2 through Steam.

So again, one more time for those in back...

STEAM DOES NOT ALLOW PRE-LOADING OF EA GAMES BEFORE EA BEGINS.

If GGG is somehow able to convince Steam/Valve to allow preload of PoE2, they will have pulled off a miracle, and should be praised til the end of time.

Oh boy you must feel really stupid now... you should. Please refrain from posting misinformation in the future. Thank you
With all the load they're going to have on the servers tomorrow, I'm banking on Steam's infrastructure to better be able to handle the volume for the last minute patch.
I dont see any download for standalone ? can someone link to where it is please. I got epic launcher but you cant Download it there.

Where are you getting this information from?
Check back in the posts here others have complained, a guy in my Discord was even making a character when it went back down.

Even if true, the amount of people that probably got in long enough to make a character is probably pretty small. Xbox servers are not exactly known for their speedy downloads especially when there are mass amounts of people trying to DL at the same time.
