Hard crashing PC locks up
I have had some good success with an app called Process Lasso. You can use this to specifically set a rule for the PoE2 process to drop to IDLE priority and unassign 2 cores if the CPU usage rises above 95% for a second, and then remain at IDLE for say, 10 seconds. And then resume normal processes.
Find the tool here: https://bitsum.com/ To do this: * Open Options, CPU Limiter * New CPU Limit Rule: Process match: pathofexilesteam.exe When CPU use is: 85% For a period of: 1 seconds Reduce by this many cores: 2 For a period of: 10 seconds. I also use ProBalance settings: Advanced/ Leave all settings except: Lower to idle priority instead of below normal: Ticked Ignore all foreground processes: Unticked Change affinity during restraint: Ticked CPUs: 2-15 (or how many cores you have, just ensure you start at core 2) This has immediately solved the issue for me - and it even decreases load time dramatically as well. Any tool that can reduce the CPU priority and remove cores will probably work, but this can be done on a rule basis per running process. Of course, I cannot say if this is guaranteed to work for everyone. But I can say I've had hardlocking constantly, and I've now been able to play for 5 hours continuously. Except for one REALLY off bug that may be a server issue (says my controller is unplugged then dumps me back to the login screen). |

Was there ever any reply from GGG regarding it? Seems like a pretty huge problem by now with the number of threads and people having problems.

" After disabling core 0 and core 1 for pathofexilestream.exe with core affinity in task manager whenever i launch the game I've had 0 crashes in about 6 hours of gameplay so far so that's the workaround that worked for me. Last edited by Tomtah#4647 on Dec 14, 2024, 6:59:21 AM

Same issue here. Full on lock up only occurs when I load to a zone. Happens on both full screen exclusive and fullscreens borderless.
Only happens when I pay Poe2 no other game or app does it. Please fix soon I can't keep powering off my PC with a hard system shutdowns Last edited by Bosx55#6254 on Dec 14, 2024, 7:01:23 AM

i verify the files in steam and set the Shader Cache for NVIDIA Cards in the nvidia settings to 100GB Cache hold.
i played since then 1 hour without any issue. maybe that could work for you. no cpu issues, no 100 % cpu power and no high temperature Last edited by mikefanta#7972 on Dec 14, 2024, 7:04:17 AM

This game turns into a CPU stress test during all load scenarios.
It's trying to compile too many shaders and assets at the same time. Hell, this game overload all my CPU cores faster than Cinebench benchmarking. It's insane. The console versions run better because GGG can prepackage shaders for that specific hardware. With PCs, and all different hardware condfigs, it seems like they making our PCs build shaders from scratch every damn load screen, leading to CPU spikes and crashes. I suspect they are gathering data and will patch in prepackage shaders for PC as well and have most, if not all loaded at game launch, so this will eventually go away. Most games load the bulk of shaders when the game first launches and they just sit in the cache for the CPU to grab whenever, instead of having to compile and overwork your CPU. I'm 99% convinced this is all due to bad shader optimization by GGG. Windows 11 23H2 (Steam), AMD 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, 32BG DDR4 3200, Samsung 980 Pro SSD

" There is no risk to your processor unless you're using shitty components and have bad cooling. Processors are designed to work at 100% load. " At some point you will reveal OCCT (more stressful than casual Cinebench). And there is no "overload" of CPU because software can't load it over 100%. d3dcomp64 and cc are working at that specific moment compiling the shaders at the high speed which is not bad - it improves the loading times, but something going badly at this moment and it's not related to POE directly because that issue was "fixed" (workarounded) back in the days in PoE 1. Also Space Engine and old Falcon 4.0 caused the same hangs freezing the system completelty or almost completely. There is nothing wrong if your CPU utilized at its full power to load the game faster. Whew! This morning I woke up from a nightmare where my computer literally caught on fire and started spewing smoke while playing PoE2. That was a real dream. I'm not just saying that to be funny or whatever. It's really sad considering where my priorities are, but hey, at least my system is still functioning.
PoE2: A good, giving game
