Hard crashing PC locks up

It's still crashing. Massacre
I've tried pretty much every solution in this thread over the last week or so now. There are no consistent fixes among them that has worked for my system.

7800X3D
4080 Super
24H2 Windows

I am beyond frustrated and a little defeated for now.

While I know GGG's resources are probably being pulled in hundreds of directions with the early access launch, a little dialog that this issue is still being addressed would make this hundreds of pages long thread feel a little less hopeless in the meantime.

Agreed, this is all I’m really looking for:

“We are aware that the game crashes during loading screens requiring a full reset of the computer for some users. This is a high priority issue that are working to resolve ASAP as we understand many people paid for the game but are unable to enjoy it. We have identified the issue and are working to resolve this in a future patch. Please stay tuned for further updates.”

This is really all I’d need to see

I'm starting to lose hope on this matter. Really, you guys should too...

After 5 days of intensive freezes/crashes and multiple attempts to solve the issue, nothing has stopped the Crashes/Freezes. Nothing. And here is what I tried:

- Disabling cores 0 and 1 - NO GOOD. Only prevents freezing, but constant crashes to desktop still happen.
- Disabling multithreading - NO GOOD. Also prevents freezing, but game still crashes to desktop.
- Disabling all cores but 0 and 1 - NO GOOD. Tried because someone raised this question.
- Changing in-game settings, between DX12, Vulkan, DX11, all kinds of FPS defined options from 60 to 240, Triple buffering, screen resolution, etc. - NO GOOD. Still Freezes and crashes with cores 0 and 1 deselected.
- Adding "--noasync --nologo --waitforpreload" to Steam Launch Options - NO GOOD! Changed nothing, apart from initializing faster due to no logo, still crashes the same.
- Clearing all sorts of Shader Caches: NVIDIA > GLCache, Roaming > PoE2 > ShaderCacheD3D12, Vulkan, SteamApps > ShaderCache, Local > Temp, NVIDIA > PerDriverVersion, minimap cache, etc... - NO GOOD! Sessions last a bit longer, but still Freezes and crashes after 20 minutes or so.
- Changing NVIDIA control panel 3D settings: Shader cache all options from User defined to 100GB and Unlimited. - NO GOOD. Still crashes.
- NVIDIA 3D settings Vulkan/OPENGL to DXGI - NO GOOD. Still crashes.
- Steam verification of files integrity - NO GOOD. No errors found.
- Turning off XMP2.0 and use default speed of RAM. - NO GOOD. Changed nothing apart from slower memory. Same freezes/crashes.
- Virus threat&protection / antimalware disabling - NO GOOD. Still freezing.
- Tried installing PoE2 via client and Epic Games (also reinstalling on Steam) - NO GOOD. Exactly same freezes and crashes (without cores 0 and 1).
- Running Steam and PoE2 as administrator - NO GOOD. Same crashes.

Probably tried other options as well but forgot to list here, since I've been trying everything for the past 5 days.

The only thing I have not tried is uninstalling Windows 24H2 and installing 23H2, because I REFUSE TO UNINSTALL MY WINDOWS DUE TO GGG INCOMPETENCY.

I give up. Going back to Baldurs Gate 3 (which btw has never crashed on ULTRA settings). I wish GGG devs were the same from Larian studios.

Yes! I have the same experience. The game will run for severals hours with no issues. Other times it will freeze every loading screen until it finally does not. No apparent consistent pattern. None of the experiments have alleviated the problem. The only way to play this game on PC is to permanently set the affinity so that at least 2 CPU cores are not allowed to be used by the game so that you can kill the task should it freeze up without freezing up the entire PC.
Weird things happened so i started testing and found the following:
The Windows Updates does not play a role in it. I tested on 4 System, 2 PC and 2 Laptops, Laptop 1 was Windows 10 no updates since forever, Laptop 2 up to date Windows 10, Both PC run Windows 11 up to date. All system crashed or experienced problematic performance, extreme cpu load resulting in stutter and worst case crashes.

The resolution does not mattes as it goes for the GPU related settings. The game runs even on lower end system but starts chugging hardware like crazy.

Certain things can easy trigger crashes or stutter.
Ice Ability's from Bosses or Mob's.
Fire seems ok but ice is weird. Also projectiles seems causing problems and impact performance.

Certain Map's or Place's chugg performance like crazy. The same goes for Loading screens (????). I had CPU load from a certain map into another, in a loading screen, of more then 80%?

I have 20 GB Vram and 64 Gb system-ram and still the game behaves sometimes, triggered reliable on map transitions, as if it has not enough ram?

I checked what PoE II does but it seems mostly rendering and shader stuff but the cpu chokes so hard on it but the operations should not do this. There is nothing going on? Leak ? Engine problem?

The gpu is going crazy from 3,5 gb vram usage to 18 and then drops back to 3,5 gb without any reason even in the main menu or loading screens.

Every transition from map to map, loading into the game or even stairs and the like can result in stutter or crashes.
Certain effects for ability's seems to have problems. We tested this with sorcs and found socrs with frost armor will impact performance while minions are not notable? Also many projectiles are also a problem. We spammed as party of 4 Firewall with no problem but the minion arsonist as soon throwing the bombs, these are showing as little projectiles for a moment before exploding on impact, it stutters but not for the fire itself it seems? Blink will result in rubber banding, stutter or crashes but not always? Lighting seems also not a problem or those weird chaos flower from the enemy archers. But certain fog effects, notable as soon you open a strong box - slow box would be a better name though, it can stutter or even crash - the same goes for those vaal hunters that can go invisible. Amount of enemy's does not seem a problem but the object calculated with physics?

My guesses and thoughts could be wrong but this Windows update is not the culprit. I do not see any indication for that. For me it looks like engine problems, which only can be fixed through GGG.
New post about a future patch and no mention of this problem yet, GG.
yeah, new patch infos but no fixes for this issue. i guess thats it for 2024. i uninstall, thx god that was only 30 bucks
I may have found a solution for my situation. I still had 23H2 at the time of release and everything ran like clockwork. After the update to 24H2 it started to freeze more and more often. I also noticed that my Kaspersky no longer worked after the Windows update and in the course of this I searched a little more for issues regarding to the 24H2 update.

In the end, I switched off Virtualization-Based Security (Core Isolation, Memory Integrity). But that wasn't enough. I also had to deactivate VBS in the registry. In older Windows Versions it was sufficient to disable Memory Integrity, but not in 24H2. Google helps there. You can then use “msinfo32” to check whether VBS is deactivated or not. And if VBS won't turn off search for "Device Guard and Credential Guard hardware readiness tool" and run it with the "-Disable" Flag. After that there should be 2 BIOS prompts on next reboot asking to disable VBS and Device Guard. I disabled both.

I don't know if VBS has an effect, but I have often read that it is recommended to disable it for gaming.

But that was not enough.

In the depths of Google I also found that the CPU scheduler was changed with the 24H2 update and that the power configuration of Windows also has an influence on it. So I set the Ultimate Performance Power Plan https://www.xda-developers.com/how-enable-windows-ultimate-performance-power-plan/ and since then I have been able to play through Act 1 completely without it freezing once.

It would be great if someone could test this. I've played enough for today. I'll continue testing tomorrow.
So I found a solution that works for my character which is an Archer.

I noticed I was not crashing when I got on one of my low-level characters and I tried to think what was different, out of random desperation I took off all of the gear from my Archer and teleported and it finally worked.

I crash whenever I teleport from anywhere to anywhere, if I take off all my gear and get naked real fast and before I teleport I will teleport no problem.
