POE2 keeps freezing my computer

Since the last update, the game keeps freezing my computer. It occurs during the loading screens when you travel from one location to other. Anyone else having these issues?

Hey I had the same in poe1. Mouse slows donw, whole PC freezes. Only reboot helps. If you have win11 update 24h2 - this is the issue. I have since reinstalled with fresh copy of windows 10 and problem is gone.

I wrote more about it here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3595427

You can also sarch google for this issue with windows 11. Ubisoft games also have this issue. Microsoft is not going to fix this soon and advises not to upgrade to 24 update. If you have ubisoft games and their launcher win11 will not even let you update to 24.

If it's a hard freeze (you need to restart with the power button) it's not a POE2 issue it's a Windows 11 24h2 known bug!

It may happen also with POE1 when you teleport somewhere!
The freeze lock all processor cores, to avoid that we need to keep at least one core free to still have control on windows!

The solutions:
- wait for a patch! (can be very long!)
- disable engine multithreading before TP
- revert back to Windows 11 23h2
- set the affinity of the processor to be able to kill the process in windows without having to hard reboot the PC.

Happening to me as well completely randomly on zone change. This has not happened prior to the patch I downloaded today before logging in and also never had this issue in poe1. This is very annoying espeially because the only solution is to reset my pc.

How do I rollback to Windows 11 23h2

Unfortunately the latest Windows 11 installation already includes 24 update and you can't revert to 23

Exactly. It worked completely fine prior to POE2 patch released early this morning. I think it has nothing to do with Windows 11 24h update

There is a lot of videos on the net explaining how to go back to Windows 11 23h2 like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTIqoY_WqGQ

but this can be tedious as it may require a fresh install! which means you have to backup your files and reinstall everything!
You can also just install Windows 10 and don't care for updates (like the post previous to mine suggested) until Windows 11 is fixed.

a simpler solution is to disable Engine multithreading in game each time we teloport but that also ca become annoying quickly!

that's why I guess the best solution right now (other than reinstalling Windows) is to set the affinity of the CPU:

start POE2
right click on the taskbar then click on task manager
click on the detail icon in the left side
find the executable (on steam its: PathOfExileSteam.exe)
right click on it then click set affinity
uncheck at least one thread
From now on if there is a freeze you can still switch to windows and kill the process

you can also do this with a line command, you will find a lot of videos explaining how to do that too.

The freeze doesn't happen very often but the hard reboot is annoying, we get rid of it with this method.

All is left now is hoping the windows patch comes soon !
Happens to me also...only hard reset helped and i don't like that. If as mentioned above its a W11 issue i would have it on other games also but thats not the issue for me. It happend when i entered town.
