PoE 2 is boring and not fun

I wrote about it a bit in my own feedback post...

This game's over-reliance on dodge-roll is infuriating at best. I can see why people compare it to Souls/Elden Ring, et. al... but it isn't even close to those games. They took a lot of the worst elements of those games, and a bunch of the worse elements from top-down ARPGs and mashed them together to produce an unfulfilling, boring tedious snooze fest.

This game is literally balanced around the dodge roll and how 100% on-point you need to be in using it in order to even progress beyond a snail's pace whilst not getting killed constantly. Even if you take the keystone + stats you need to not dodge roll... the drawbacks of simply not dodge-rolling constantly are vastly greater than anything you can do to minimize it.

For some people, that is fine. For some, it isn't fine. IMO, they seriously need to take a step back and look at how reliant on this one specific mechanic they've made the game and its content.

All on-death effects simply need to go. They offer nothing other than frustration and are a cheap way to have artificial difficulty without putting in effort for thoughtful content.

I think in subsequent leagues, they will get the crafting system back up to the thoughtful planning you had to do in PoE1 in order to succeed.

I have confidence that in the future they will make PoE2 fantastic... this is EA after all... But right now, it ain't it quite yet. I probably won't be playing again until the next big content update and to see how they address some current criticisms.

I actually don't have any confidence that they'll make PoE2 fantastic. The fact that they built it with these core designs is indicative of widescale failure within their company to recognize obvious problems in their ideas before implementing them.

I think they need to hire someone like me (and yes, I know they're obviously not going to hire *me*, but I'd still be better for this than anyone they've got right now) to be in charge of analyzing game direction and ideas before they get to the production and implementation phase. "What effects will this idea have on player psychology and existing game systems? What parts will be positive? Which parts negative? Are there ways to turn the potentially harmful parts into positives, instead? And if there aren't, is this really something the game needs? And if so, is there another way to implement it without the negatives?"

Someone doing that would have put a stop to so many of these core designs before they ever got implemented. And without someone capable of that level of analysis, decision making, and control, I'm not sure how much GGG will actually change about the underlying core design problems in this game. Number changes? Sure. Bad systems? Ehhhh. We'll see.

I can see them turning this from a D-tier game into a C-tier game by the time EA is done, but unless they change the harmful core systems/designs, it'll never be as good as PoE1.

Thank god they wouldn't hire you.

This game, to a lot of players, is already better than POE 1. Im one of those players. POE 2 was never intended to be anything remotely close to POE 1 and GGG was vitally clear about this. This game is suppose to capture a different audience and for people like me...this game is fucking amazing.

PoE2 is dog shit. Absolutely atrocious game right now that will only retain the players who would have liked PoE1 Ruthless mode. Have fun in your dead game, because if they don't change things it's definitely not going to last. The only good parts are the graphics, the music, and the voice acting.

The funny thing is outside of people like you, which are a vocal and I mean vocal minority, the overwhelming vast majority of people are loving this game and can see where its heading.

And its ok if you don't like the game. You can go back to the game you like but this game for hundreds of thousands of people is fucking amazing. I think the real thing here is that you have other things going on in your life to feel the need to be like this to random strangers on the internet. Do you need a hug?
Did a Sanctum run and I got the 40% movespeed "Boon."

This is how the game should be by default. Our character is heinously fucking slow.

A naked level 1 in Path of Exile 1 has more movement speed than a character with 30% movespeed boots in PoE2. It's insane.

I think its intentional and makes % MS bonus boots more impactful. I think they were serious when GGG stated they didn't want this to be a super zoomy game and to have items with certain bonus be more impactful.

Bad post with bad ideas. I hope the devs completely ignore your post. Its a new game with new ideas! Don't live in the past, learn from it.

What exactly are the new ideas ? Can you develop on this ?

Sanctum is in PoE1, Ultimatum is in PoE1, slap a map with pretty colors and call it a new atlas which is the same as the old atlas, Ascendancies are practically the same, skills are also the same but gated as old skill gems were, annoints came from PoE1, Essences and the same currency are in PoE1, Archnemesis yellow monsters were in poe1 and now are in PoE2 having the same primordial issue that was fixed in PoE1 which is moddiferies stacking badly on a mob making it unkillable in some cases, ...So beside the roll mechanic and the boss fights taking longer and somehow better telegraphed and the fact that now you don't need a portal scroll to go to town, what is new ? The graphic engine ?

This message is in before they add ward as a defensive and call it orange stuff.

If I recall correctly they wanted PoE2 to be an exapnsion to PoE1 so that they can improve the game engine to continue to develop, but ended up seeing that it is a herculean task so they ended up saying it's a new game.

The whole flow of combat, the progression, gem system, bosses, locations everything is new. Your point of view is shallow as hell. D4 has more in common with PoE1 than PoE2. Yes ultimatum is in PoE1 but you somehow conveniently forgot that its also a lot different with different modifiers, different zones, different "missions". Your post is disingenuous as hell and you know it. The fact is Jonathan, you know the guy behind those games is NOT HAPPY HOW POE1 TURNED OUT. Guess what he will avoid with PoE2?
