What happened to Chris Wilson?

Now the game isn't even out of beta

nope. It is a shit state of alpha.

If we are testing all act and all classes, then may be it should be called beta.

No such thing as true beta or alphas these days. Too many twits got quite content to throw money at companies, for unfinished, half baked, barely playable (sometimes not even released at all) games / game companies.

Really, at the end of the day, if you want shitty games / game companies to go away... Stop giving them more money.
GGG - Why you no?

My personal feeling is that someone was not happy having to put resources into POE1 just because Chris publicly promised it wouldn't be negatively effected by 2.

personally, i've been defending ggg a huge lot. whenever people say GGG promised that they would put equal resources into both games i keep telling them theyre misremembering. coz GGG staff has always been careful not to say that.

until one fateful day someone actually showed me the clip where chris actually did and i had to eat my words

All due respect but you'll never see that clip because you are making the extent of the argument up and attributing it to people like myself. Who are more or less communicating their understanding of the intent and "spirit" of GGG's words.

You'll notice how I didn't say "equal resources" because thats not what Chris said. If you can't remember the multiple times he said that POE1 would have leagues staggered with POE2, and the time where he said POE2 wont negatively effect 1, or the time Johnathan said 2 wont kill 1 because after all POE1 only needed "like 1 developer making leagues for the last couple years" well its not my job to inform you. I know I heard him say it, I know I've had dozens of conversations on this forum about those words with people on various sides of the discussion and you're in fact the very first person to try and cast doubt that he said it (in fairness you're casting doubt about what exactly they said and meant by that). Worse than that you're not specifically saying he didn't say that, you're making up a strawman about "equal resources" and attributing that to other people and insisting that we prove your strawman is real.

You know that (very famous) time when Johnathan said 1 developer (later amended to "probably about 7" developers were making POE1 leagues while POE2 had almost all the devs?

Why would he say that if he didn't mean to downplay POE2's impact on POE1's future? Never mind the obvious context (POE2 is not going to kill POE1 was the context I'm not going to dig through the interview for the exact quote but its pretty obviously the context) Its not just Chris here; both have directly asserted or at least HEAVILY IMPLIED that POE1 would go on more or less like normal. Why even bring that factoid up (twice) if they weren't downplaying this exact thing? Its one of the reasons people are upset about POE1 the last few months, the management of expectation (words) don't line up with their actions.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

You... You paid GGG money for POE1 in closed beta when POE1 was half baked and unfinished.

Additionally POE2 is in paid "beta" or "EA" if you prefer (just like POE1 was in paid beta) not really what a reasonable person would call "open beta" (aka when you can test without paying) which POE1 also had and GGG had said POE2 might have also have.

Alpha, Beta/EA all are more or less arbitrary and subjective measures of how unfinished a game is. Sure Alpha is less finished than beta and EA can be more or less rough than beta depending entirely on the dev and how desperately they need to pay their employees but none of the terms is an objective measure and no standard is agreed upon to their meaning across the industry, not even an informal one from some CGDC conference in 1998.

I had the same problem with Maven for quite awhile. Finally when I decided to save up 15 writs and just bang them all off in a row I nailed it down pretty easily, then went and did 3 uber mavens with 1 portal afterwards. I was always too nervous doing one off Maven fights, I would not see the orbs from all the clutter and just totally brick my arena. One day of practice and smooth sailing now.

thats good for you. i can do maven's other abilities just not the memory game.

my first maven took me 7 writs or so? first few tries i was dying by many things. but after that it became more of kill her and use "6 portal defence" against her memory game.

i've also tried many different ways. i just simply cant do it.

on a flip side, 15 writs are definitely not a normal amount most players would have access to or would be willing to work up to.

not shitting on you in any way tho. more of criticism on the game. i am impressed by players who can do maven.

yeah wording is important even now i m not using the proper words because of chris's statement which undermined ggg's efforts.

it no longer matters once chris made his statement and no effort was made to retract it.

What's why they call it EA instead of beta

I don't have much to add, but I remember one of the first interviews Jonathan gave once they started using the phrase "Early Access" in their announcements he was asked about it. He simply said the guys in marketing favored it over beta. Doesn't change the fact this EA is PoE 2 in beta. Saying that, I expect the game to be fully released in 2027 at this pace. Fear of losing players is just going to keep the game in beta longer, but I digress.
poe 1 open beta is more complete than the current state of poe 2 EA

even in poe 1 closed beta, at least they have 2 out of 3 acts released

poe 1 at that time only have 6 classes and no ascendency anyway

This isn't correct.
Poe1 open beta had 6 classes, like Poe2.
It had no endgame at all (Poe2 has 4 mechanics and bosses). Not even Atziri was in the game. No bosses. No mechanics.

Atlas of Worlds (v1) was only added after Malachai. And it was just map without any skill trees etc. at all.

Also you can make great builds in Poe2 EA. Just use the Tempest Flurry or Temporalis. Poe1 had no good fast builds at all.
