PS5 Game Performance is just awful and unplayable
Back after about 2 months away and literally nothing has changed. In fact, it feels worse now.
And to make matters worse, GGG have yet to even ACKNOWLEDGE the horrendous performance on PS5, which would at least be something. It's not as though they can't be aware of it, so at this stage I can only put this radio silence down to willful ignorance and/or a lack of respect for their console playerbase. Not holding out a lot of faith that this will ever be fixed... |

Actually they kinda acknowleged it in this topic.

I can't stand this 12-20FPS gameplay loop in the endgame on PS5 Pro. Any complex scene with heralds or another type of explosions turns into a slideshow.
Why care about all these improvements to the game itself if it outputs 3 times less FPS than god damn D4. I know this is beta, but console experience is just not ready for the endgame. Even 40FPS drops feels like shit. So many developer interviews and nobody asked anything about this. Console players don't have a single streamer representative who can raise this problem to the decision makers. I'm quitting this game until full release or when performance will hit at least stable 60FPS if ever. Last edited by vancoder#9307 on Apr 10, 2025, 11:22:07 PM

The most frustrating part about this is the lack of communication and also as mentioned above - we don't have any streamer representation which in this day and age seems to be th only way that things are "heard" and quickly addressed. There is so much about the console experience that is just NOT okay - outside of the horrendous performance issues in the end game - we need so much more QOL love and UI adjustments.
Down to something as simple as being able to press ENTER on my keyboard to begin interacting with other players would be amazing - in what world would anyone think that going through a multistep process to open the chat - type the text - and then go back to controller to send the text was a solid choice. I hate that as playing Lightning Spear I'm actually actively praying that I stumble upon a Gloom Shrine simply for the fact that it will negate 90%+ of the particles from my abilities so much so that suddenly - map clearing feels clean and smooth. At this point just release a free MTX for us that just turns our abilities ALL the way down until you can figure it out your end. It's also just a punch in the gut to see them promoting new MTX boxes and skins/skill gems (which funny how not a single one of those packages are for spears) while a majority of the player base is struggling with severe performance issues. " I tried to ask Darth about this during his interview with Johnathon and Mark with Ghazzy, but I guess they didn’t take questions from chat and instead needed questions to be submitted in advance, so the best thing to do is to try and get Darth or Ghazzy aware of the issue so they can hopefully bring it up in a future conversation with GGG. Experienced software engineer, I feel your pain GGG.

Still bad performance in PS5 with 0.2. Starting ACT 3 and huge fps drops, i guess in endgame is going to be the same or worse.
Playing NIS 1440p 120mhz mode. |

Hello everyone,
I’d like to share my experience with Path of Exile on PS5. I also play the game on PC, where I have an Intel i7-14700K and an RTX 4080 Super. On my PC, everything runs flawlessly—no lag, no stutters. However, the experience on my PS5 is very different. Setup and Testing System Updates: My PS5 firmware is up to date, and the game itself is fully patched. Network: I use a wired connection with 250 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload. Other online games on PS5 run smoothly without any performance problems. Controllers and Displays: I’ve tested the game with three official PS5 controllers, switching between a 32" monitor and a 55" TV. The distance from my seating position to the screen is about 2–3 meters. None of these changes helped. Graphics Settings: I tried every available graphics and resolution option—Performance, Ultra Performance, Quality settings, Dynamic Culling, and Dynamic Resolution. Regardless of the combination, the lag persists. Performance Issues Lag in Maps: The problems mostly occur during busy on-screen action—like when using skills such as Lightning Spear. However, the issue isn’t specific to one skill; it affects gameplay in general whenever the screen gets crowded. Hideout and Other Areas: There’s some occasional lag in the hideout, but it’s much less noticeable than in maps. Disconnects and Lost Maps: While I rarely experience full crashes, I do get disconnects. When that happens, any “juiced” maps (e.g., those enhanced with Exalted Orbs) disappear, causing me to lose my currency. This doesn’t happen in other PS5 games, nor does it occur as often on PC. No Error Codes: There’s no error message or specific code when these disconnects or performance hiccups occur. Community Observations Many Players Affected: There’s a forum thread spanning 34 pages where multiple users report similar issues with the PS5 version—especially in co-op play or high-intensity scenarios. Lack of Official Response: As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been a direct reply from Grinding Gear Games (GGG) regarding the PS5 performance problems in that thread. Some official statements have been made in other contexts (e.g., about security concerns), but not about this issue. PS5 Pro Reports: Players using a PS5 Pro have reported much better performance, which suggests stronger hardware might help. However, I believe the developer should ensure stable performance across all supported platforms. Conclusion I hope GGG will address these issues soon. All my other PS5 titles perform flawlessly, so I’d rather not go through a complete reinstallation or other drastic measures if the problem lies in the game itself. I love Path of Exile and want to keep playing on console without these disruptive lags and disconnects. If anyone has found a reliable workaround or if GGG could provide an update on these performance concerns, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading, and I hope we can see an official fix or improvement in the near future! |

That fact that they sell this game for 30 euros in this state is insane. I'm back to my PC again which should be worse than my PS5 but still runs way better.
