POE2 Solo Self Farm and Trading

"
Didn't Jonathan say something like "If you don't get enough exalted orbs to craft while leveling then we failed?"

Crafting just doesn't feel rewarding.
I had a bit more luck with the Exalts, but then I didn't dare use any of them.
I have a nice item, blue or 3 affix yellow.
Now I have a very limited supply of Orbs that are likely to also be my main currency once I get to the point where trading is the only way for the average player to try a nonstandard built or progress into higher tier maps.

Will I spend that currency, knowing that the most likely result is disappointment?
If I have a bow with +phys, +% phys, and I throw an exalt on it and get +12 accuracy, I don't feel like I gained 12 accuracy, I'll feel like I lost a valueable currency item.
So I won't. It's just too random.
On SSF, I might, but I'll only do so once I get to the point where I'd otherwise bite the bullet and try trading - any exalt I use now I can't use later on a better item I'll use for longer than 5 levels.
I hoped they'd implement a low level crafting currency that wouldn't have high trade value, alas, no cigar.

Would be nice to have drops adjusted around SSF with character locked to this mode. No option to transfer to trade league.

I personally also prefer SSF and mostly play SSF leagues. Only with the introduction of the currency exchange I tried trade actively once.

But the simple fact is PoE 1 and 2 are both games with trade as a core system. Trading is wanted and promoted. If I or anyone else chooses to play SSF it is our decision to put limitations on our game play.

GGG was nice enough to introduce an extra SSF game mode for us. They are in no obligation to change anything for SSF. Especially because SSF characters can be changed to regular trade characters, drop rates in SSF cannot and must not be different from trade.

Overall balance with drop rates will always be something GGG has an eye on and if needed there will be changes. GGG has all the data from hundreds of thousands of players and their drops. They are in the best position to balance the game the way they want it do be. For us, it is always just singular experiences with a very limited dataset.

they can just make SSF character not able to convert to standard, i dont think anyone would mind
I also want an SSF mode with Last Epoch like features for hunting items. They could surely come up with something interesting for this. Obviously if they do this then you can't let SSF convert to standard. That's fine, who cares.

As it is, I mostly play SSF but I make my chars in trade league because there's literally no benefit to pressing the SSF button when you can just play standard but not trade.

I recently broke down and did a trade since I just couldn't get an upgrade otherwise.

IMO the real problem is there's basically no reason to actually use exalted orbs. The odds it will be a waste of an orb is like 95% it seems. I played trying to "craft" mostly since, in their promo, they said they wanted us to be able to do that. But really you can't do that. I probably blew like 50 exalts at this point on basically gamba. I could have gotten an entire set of gear that could do probably about t12 - 14ish maps for 50 exalts.

It also leads to the issue where I feel like the only exciting item I can find is an exalt, vaal, or divine orb. The odds of a rare being good enough to try to gamba some exalts on it are like 0.1%.

Right now, i not even picking up any magic item, not like i am going to invest regal and exalted into it
They are too greedy for this. In normal league you need more stashes to trade and collect items. In SSF you don't. So they don't earn money on you. They will never care to make it good. Diablo 4 made drops matching your character better and they also made great looking skins drop in RNG manner and not be bought from store (I think more good ones drop than there are in the store). PoE2 devs are more greedy than D4 ones. D4 and exp cost money but at least you are not constantly spending on it for stashes and skins. You get a lot of value just from what you bought in exp pack or the main game. So yeah, don't count on them introducing better drops to SSF. God forbids it becomes a fun mode.

This game is not balanced based on ssf and never going to be.
Personally I dont trade while im playing campaing and it was fine even before they made it easier.
The problem is horrible loot. You will never find better item then 1ex worth from poetrade, it just doesn't happen. I wonder why it's even so cheap if it's so rare. All my gear comes from poetrade and two parts might be from vendor. When vendors have better gear than loot you find, then it shows how bad quality of drop is in the game. They need to massively increase quality of items, because while it's okay for campaign, it completely kills any motivation to proceed with atlas, because it's just pointless, nothing exciting happens here. Even Blizzard managed to make more engaging endgame in D4 than this.

I can't imagine playing ssf, I wouldn't be able to get gear for t1 maps, forget capping res, forget anything exciting.

ok fine, but without a auction house?

I believe some are still looking with nostalgia to the old Diablo 2 days where trading included opening a lobby, it was cumbersome, but you potentially could pool the drops of a few dozen people for everyone to get what they wanted.

Trading in Diablo 2 involved forum gold. That was what saved the game from obscurity.

Hopefully we get a simplified trading system in PoE 2 that most players (who never played PoE 1) can understand and use.
