Very low FPS on a high-end pc

Hi,

I just build a new pc with the following spec:
- AMD 9950X
- 96GB RAM 7000MHz
- ASUS GeForce RTX 4090 ROG STRIX OC
- M2 - Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
- Monitor is a 1440p 144Hz (Asus ROG PG279Q)
- Using Cable for LAN (1000Mbit line)

I build in a big case Lian Li Evo XL for big airflow with 10 fans and water-cooling.

So now the issue is i get pretty low FPS to begin with. In town and game i have about 116FPS.
And during a miniboss (the first one i think, the big worm coming our the ground) i got to 17FPS and it didn't even go up so the whole fight was at very low FPS.
Also the game stutters quite allot. The experience isnt all that good really.

I also have another pc with AMD 7950X3D and the same GPU before i put it in the new pc. And i was having over 300 FPS...didnt play that log so i didnt get to the boss but right out the bat it was hugely better FPS. Sure 3D chips are better for gaming but this massive amount don't seem right.

I took a screenshot of my setting page and zipped it. I used Mode as Windowed fullscreens so i could take screenshots. I tested in fullscreen without windowed as well with same result.

I have latest firmware for motherboard, nvidia drivers 566.36 and no other stuff running in the background when gaming. A pretty clean pc i would say. No Antivirus beside window's builtin.

Thoughts?

Also increased the shader cache side to 100GB in the nvidia settings. Didn't help much.

Is the Engine Multithreading option checked? Under Advanced Settings on Graphics Tab

If it's not it should be checked.

i had better performance (at the boss lol) on an old CPU with multithreading off, this seems very odd
if you get down to 17 fps and not even go up on a boss fight, ingame settings are not the problem with a pc like that.
you could try v sync off but this should not be this problem.

idk, to me it looks like its a corrupted file on an driver or its and install issue from the game.

you could try to do a benchmark test your pc with no games running, there you can see if its your pc or if its the game.

you could verify the game files on steam or just reinstall the game.

maybe it could be a bios/ram problem where you maybe need to lower your ram frequency in the bios, dont worry this should not be a big fps loss but just sometimes this can help.

otherwise, if the benchmark test was ok, then just reinstall everything new,
windows and the game.

if you decide to reinstall windows, make sure u install the older version 23h2 because with the new update (24h2), lots of people have big problems with game crashing. (had the same problem).

good luck mate
Hi,

If you re win 11 24h2 user , disabling win11 gpu accelerated schedule and variable refresh rate fixed problem for me.

Dx12 broken for nvidia for the moment , try to stick vulkan.

Disable reflex / low latency modes , it does micro stutters.

You can also try "Park Control" since 24H2 updates are broken , win11 might parking your CPU cores. Check it out if it helps you.

Add performance to both Nvidia control panel and win 11 program settings.

Hope it helps,

Regards.

The vsync did a big difference actually, moving toward 200fps but its very jumpy...goes to 130, 70, 200 and jumps around, dont get it, even in town i'm now at 129...

I dont use steam, just downloaded the game and run from the folder directly so i dont think there is any issue with the files....

I use default RAM EXPO1 with corsair's default setting from what i understand...updated the RAM fw + motherboard to latest but yeah these are all brand new hardware so it can be that but at this point i would say its game optimization or maybe even windows DX12 or teh new 24H2.
I'm not downgrading for the game though. Hopefull windows and GGG can sort it out if that is indeed the problem.

Will try some GPU testing and let you know.

Cheers man.

It seems Vulkan is situational, sometime its better and most times same as DC12.... Thanks for the tips, will try some more. Downgrading is not a option really. Tested disabling Hardware accelerated GPU schedule and variable refresh rate (System->Display->Graphics) and it didnt do much for me.

Will test some more :)
I tested also Diablo4 and GPU tester like FURMARK and i get over 300FPS in FURMARKL on 1440p which is my monitor resolution.

Would say i'm please with the performance overall in other games and gpu tester. I have limit my CPU heat to 83 degree also. But as long as i don't go below 120fps i'm happy.

With the vsync off so far its been much better, still during boss fights it goes down hard for some reason.
i forgot something, if you have a nvidia gpu

go into the nvidia control panel, manade 3D settings and search for Shader Cache Size and set it to 10GB or 100GB

you also can go to %APPDATA%/Path of Exile 2, search for shader folders, vulkan and/or directX3D and delete them....

cheers
