i got a level 20 skill gem and spirit gem from a research box day 2 and i've not seen one since

played 250+ hours

if you can't level a gem why would you want one to drop that would feel like you progressed your character in some way and no one wants that

I don't understand how they arrived at this being a better system than leveling your gems as you go... like did they decided to just make a worse system because they can or what was the actual goal behind this
