Character Passive Pathing System - Made better. (Illustrations included)

I think it was wolcen that had the skill tree you could rotate the different layers of skill tree circle. Was probably the only innovative idea and the one cool thing I remember about that game.

I haven't played it but I saw a video in YT and yes, that's what I was thinking pretty much!

With a "layered" or point restriction ( but freedom to go anywhere ) approach I could i.e. complete the first "layer" with some basic stuff like atack speed, evasion, es etc -> spin out into grenades -> come back for quarterstaff and other monky stuff.

That would be epic, but well ok, dreaming is for the bold. Haha.

I completely disagree with that because it prevents any uniqueness for our characters.

I know it's a modern trend to be able to do everything without any restriction (kill the patriarchyyyyyyyyyy) but I personnaly like constraints because it forces me to make hard choices (which includes frustration as a consequence) but think of it this way : any "god mod" in any game is fun at first but it then quickly kills the game because of the lack of implication for the player.

-> I like to not be able to become a sorceress with a bow because it doesn't feel natural. I actually can become that but it will be at a great cost, which sounds fair.

So no, I wouldn't want an open beginning because it's a treason at lvl1 of the choice you have been forced to make at the very beginning

Even a strictly class based RPG like D&D understood you have to mix and match. Creating new classes like Hex Blade, Warpriest, Swashbuckler, Skald, Monk and countless others. These have a 'class identity' because they were created from other classes to fit a theme.

You can do this on your own. Without something telling you how to do it. You can make an Archer Summoner. You can make a Melee Ranger or a Spellblade. This is old as Elmers Glue.

Create your own class theme and identity with the tools you're given. Players already travel more than adjacent to get what they want. We're already plenty restricted in what we can do.

Ascendancy actually matters the least right now.

Wholly disagree. Try being a Chronomancer without the Chronomancer ascendancy. Try being a demon form Infernalist without Infernalist. The Ascendancy system is fine, but I do hope they will allow us to retake the challenges and unlock more ascendancies on one character to swap between, as I don't really want to require 36 characters in the future to play all of them at end-game, 12 will be more than enough to maintain outside of making HC/League characters.

I was talking about having an impact on how you build your character. You could be an Archer Chronomancers if you want. They literally have 1 node that specifies 'Cast Speed'.

Also just get your Chill magnitude up and use Temporal Chains. Everything has 0% Action Speed. Everyone can Chronomancer. I'm mostly poking fun at terrible design here.

I think Demon Form is not working as intended and they just don't want to address it because it's otherwise incredibly bad. As per it's secondary node 10 Max Demonflame. I doubt they will allow 600 stack Demon Form to stay. It has a fun dodge though.

It's interesting picking Infernalist as an example given it's probably the most poorly made Ascendancy. You can play with just 2 points because nothing else makes much difference.
