How to Fix Movespeed on Boots
After the interview, I was a bit disappointed as I bet many people were that they felt inclined to keep it as is. While I do not dislike the idea that boots need the movespeed mod to be desirable (as every piece of gear needs at least one or two mods to feel desirable) the problem is how absolutely necessary to feels to have 25/30% movespeed before the boots are even worth considering to wear. This has the added effect of otherwise VERY good boots being ditched entirely purely because the movespeed loss feels just that fracking bad. I propose the following changes...
1. Remove MS penalty from armor entirely. 2. Yes, add implicit movespeed to boots, of the following rollable ranges: 5-10% Armour > 6-12% both Armour hybrids > 8-14% Energy Shield and ES/Evasion > 8-16% Evasion. 3. Dedicated movespeed mod is now flat 5% increase per tier, with four tiers. 4. Hybrid MS/Defense mods that add a flat amount based on tier of hybrid mod, maybe 3% per tier or 3% bottom tier increasing by 2% each additional. Consider MS/Life and MS/Mana, as well. Ideally, this should make it easier to upgrade your boots while leveling out the pain of "low" move speed mods. It should also prove to make the Campaign feel much better to play through and recreate characters. One of the biggest pain points for me in PoE1 was having to find move speed on my boots every new character/league just to feel like I could move at a decent pace. This has been a long time running pain point. PoE2 at least the overall pacing means it feels a little less painful, but you basically need 20% MS by maps or you now lose out on significant survivability, and the sheer size of maps campaign or end game means tons of frustrating back tracking made worse by poor MS. Please consider these ideas and implement something to ease this pain point. Last bumped on Jan 13, 2025, 5:20:38 PM

Or they can remove movement speed as a roll completely and make a rune for that.
Low tier common drop, high tier low chance drop. That way many boots with decent rolls could have a future und it would make unique boots also better, because many of them have low movement speed. |

Or they could leave movespeed as is and tune some of the enemies a bit. Implicits on other gear are different because they create functional differences among what would otherwise just be different models (like belts). But if every pair of boots needs movespeed, the game should just be adjusted so they don't. Not every build cares about movespeed, but the real question is "Can builds without blink successfully avoid all the attacks with no movespeed and perfect play?" If yes, then movespeed isn't necessary, it's just convenient. If the answer is no, it needs to be yes.

Nothing to fix, it's just a mod like any other that needs to be balanced around what crafting power they have given to players.

Yeah I disagree with that decision aswell.
I can understand the argument of them wanting 1 affix to be really good on a specific gear slot (they compared it to weapons), but I think boots is a big difference. Because there might be that for my build I wont use a weapon unless it has attack speed, but that doesnt mean that every weapon that drops or I slam that doesnt have attack speed is just inherently worthless, because it might be good for other builds and I can trade it. While on boots movement speed is basicly a must for every build (maybe with a incredibly tiny amount of exceptions) so every pair boots that drop or I slam that get good mods but no movement speed is just completetly worthless, which just feels bad and unecassery. | |
Remove movement speed affix from boots entirely and increase base movement speed by 50%!

... or they could just remove all movespeed modifiers from gear, skills, passives and ascendancies and make all characters run 40% faster. And if some archetypes were significantly faster than others, they could reduce their movespeed to put them in line.
Hold on to yer shite load o´ bloody barnacles on me arse-cockles, me hearty!

" Yep. I can compensate for or deal with slower skill speed if I lack increased on a weapon. I can compensate for or deal with a missing resistance because it can go elsewhere in other gear. Movespeed ONLY spawns on boots. They just need to make it less painful. Implicit MS and hybrid MS/Defense and MS/Life mods would go a long way to alleviating that pain. |

" Yes if something is basicly mandatory and it can only appear on one gear slot then it might aswell be an implicit. Feel the same way about charm slots on belts, but atleast there we get +1 charm slot as an implicit by default. |
