My take on affix tiers - Bigger numbers is better

Playing poe1 bigger numbers are ALWAYS better. t16 maps t17maps. 20ql gems,23ql gems. its simple and easily understood.

one thing i RESENT in poe1 is that affix tier list is the opposite.

t1 is better than t2. players keep aiming for t1. and with awakened mods, we even have t0 affixes.

to me i find this as backward.

when i play LE, item tiers use "bigger is better" system. its easy to understand and easy to explain. its in fact organic. i dont need to explain to anyone that a t5 roll is better than t2.

it also is a great way to communicate power. for example in LE, a regular piece of gear can normally have 4 affixes. a "perfectly" crafted items via normal means would mean it has 4 affixes at t5 each. i can then say oh checkout my t20 boots. people would immediately understand that i crafted something with all top tier affixes pool.

it goes further than that. the devs introduced drop only affixes that go past t5, such as t6 and t7. when players state they crafted a t25 gear, people immediately understand that its kinda "mirror tier".

there is an argument for the old poe "lower is better" system by saying "just push the numbers lower whenever a new tier is introduced.

this happened to one of my gloves i was working on. initially it had a bunch of t1s but later dropped down to t2. it made me feel bad even tho the result is the same.

on the flipside, introducing higher tiers with an increasing system would not require any "dropping to lower numbers". in fact i would say dropping the numbers is bad as it creates a disconnect. if i did not keep myself updated. went away from the game for a while. came back and i can no longer find my 5x t1 gloves, i'd spend a lot of time trying to look for it only to realize its now 5x t2.

poe2 is a place for change. let us adapt to higher tier numbers meaning better rolls!

I like the PoE1 system. That being said, I think you are right, that this is the time to try something new.

I think I would be okay with higher tier = better item mod, if:

A) It said what the tier was compared to the max possible for that mod and item. - i.e. "tier 4/9" if it's the 4th tier out of 9 possible tiers for that item/mod combo.
- OR -
B) It said what the ilvl required for that mod was, so I can have a rough gauge of how strong it is. - i.e. "tier 4/lvl.53" if it's the 4th tier, and the item level needs to be 53 or higher to be able to roll this mod. This is especially helpful, because you now also know at what level (and below) you will no longer find that mod.

Cheers.

Higher would be fine if they were all the same. Go look at a crafting sheet, it’s insane.
Personally, I do not even give a flying crap about this in POE 1.

You can put Chinese symbols there, mixed with German translit and I wont even notice.

The main reason - I use awakened, and I really do not care "how rare mod X is", because I can check relative price in one second.

Those fellas are stealing the shit out of Last Epoch anyway...
Couldn't they just color-code the high-end tier rolls.

I mean, until I get my awakened trade 2?

i really wouldnt mind if they stole CoF/MG and LE's cycles.

in fact i really wish ggg steals em and implements em.

Higher tier = better is intuitive, but as said previously it should state in the tooltip what tier it is compared to the maximum tier.
Tier 7 Maximum Life
Tier 4 Attack Speed

Without looking at a website or ANY resource external to the game can you tell me which one of these is a more fortune/powerful roll?

Again without ANY external resource, can you tell me what the highest tier of increased mana is? What about +dexterity?

It works in LE because every affixes have the same number of tiers in that game. But in POE, some affixes has only 4 tiers while some has more than 10 tiers. I think showing something like “tier 3/9”, “tier 4/4” is an ok option until better ones are found.

Showing the requirement level won’t work well. Because some affixes can roll their highest tier pretty early, but that doesn’t mean the affix is bad.
Tier system is weird, you knew Tier1 is best for everything, now some stats can roll up to tier 13 some up to tier5 and you have to learn which stat can roll up to which tier.

It's just more confusion and a "fix" of something that wasn't broken
