Please let us downgrade gem level

This just reminded me that in PoE1 there are nodes that reduce mana cost of spells.

So you had multiple build options:
high mana pool
high mana reg
or lowered costs

Currently I counted 3 skills that reduces costs:
[Price of Freedom] on warrior branch

[Marked Agility] at 5'oclock but only for Mark skills

[Conservative casting] on Monk side

If its count [Mental toughness], lowering mana cost but only while you're not on low mana...

So mana reg or mana leech needed?

There will never been spell mana leech in PoE2 as that's fundamentally broken. Indigon can only work with mana regen in any case.
+1

And to go even further, let corrupted gems with -1 level consume less mana and have less attribute requirements

That's exactly what I am asking for. Let us build. And downgrading gem enables more ways to build.

I give up.

Perhaps you should understand the point of this post before giving up. It's not about absolute mana cost. It's about cost/damage ratio. Your mana reduction nodes do nothing to address the core issue, since they reduce cost at all levels. The point is there are some spell/situations where a low level spell has better cost/damage ratio, which indigon can scale to funnel the mana through.

Most, if not all, skills have a better ratio at lower lvls, because they cost much less mana and do decent damage.

It's honestly a moot point, because the reason mana cost reduction, and mana regen exist is to mitigate this exact thing... Otherwise what exactly is the point of that entire set of build options?

Also, there are builds that rely on mana depletion for extra damage, defense, etc. and these also play into the higher mana cost at higher levels.

This is honestly a core mechanic in every game that utilizes mana... I don't understand.

EDIT: The cluster to get to Conservative Casting gets you a total of 16% cost reduction and 40% mana regen - that is enough to carry you through the game if you build a bit of Regen on both rings.

On mana heavy builds I walk to this cluster every build, because you can with little loss, since the walk will get you some decent stuff on the way.

Stupid people never lose an argument.

You are once again still not getting the point. Indigon allows you to spend all your mana on low level spell, thus utilizing their better cost/damage ratio. Global mana reduction and regen are irrelevant to the discussion, since those work the same on all level spells. You have to build very differently to make indigon work, and you need to experiment a lot to see what the optimal level gem should be for your play style. This is impossible to do without being able to change gem levels both up and down.
