thank you for sharing that.

But... as a game design, it doesnt make sense for me why do we "only" can just get access to 3th and 4th ascendencys after 90+.

As a casual player, its a heavy grind and i dont think ppl will be willing to spend maybe hundreds of hours just to get acess to it in the deeper endgame...

You have a long time to get your ascendancy during the league. I dont see why being a casual and not having a lot of time to paly would prevent you from getting your 4th Ascendancy.

Also its not nearly as RNG based as you think. There is only a small amount of actually detrimental Affliction. 5% lost on HP, Mana and ES for example of no Evasion or ES.

And you can almost negate that issue by not taking random Afflictions. Simply get maximum Honour resistance and you should be fairly easily able to get all of the Ascendancy points. I was running Sekhema with a non stat stacking Monk without any Honour resistance before 0.2 it was extremely easy to do with maximum honour resistance. Basically ignoring all traps.

It is purely RNG there is no planning you cannot say "don't take random afflictions" because you don't always have a choice. If you get a room with say +50% monster life or -40% damage its game over start again unless you way over gear the content and have no true need to actually complete it.

On top of this, Ascendency is a HUGE bonus to player power and most of the builds are now purely designed around its mechanics which means if you cannot get those points you are completley gimped until you get lucky and get the exact right Ultimatums or a perfect run in Sekhemas, you are also leveling to 80-85 with a massive reduction in power.

I mean i agree to some extend, but with 75% Honour resistance you should be absolutely able to avoid random afflictions.

So... to get 75% you must do multiple runs and spend how many hours in this process?

i get who says it can be done, my case is just: its not funny nor encouraging
This is the problem. You can farm or buy relics, but at the price or time constraint of possible fails or bad layouts , it makes more sense for players like me who may only play an hour or two at a time, it’s just makes more sense to pay someone 60ex to guarantee your last two points instantly.

Plus, many many people in Poe1 hate sanctum and especially ultimatum. They made them mandatory in POE2. Literally two of my least favorite game mechanics of all time. I’m not the only one. Ascending needs a rework, across the board. If they keep it the same I most likely will play, but I’m just gonna skip the last trial every league. If that’s what GGG wants to relegate their casual players to then that’s on them. Horrible design.
Bump.
PoE 2 needs a rework.
They've gated 3rd ascendancy to sekhema by changing chaos to 10 and higher lvl for 3rd ascend.

Sekhema as melee is the least fun experience i've had in this game, to the point where getting hit at all made me want to log out, its tedious, anxiety including and the solution is to farm maps for $ to buy honor res relics.

anyway i gave all my stuff away, deleted my league character and uninstalled so i cant play anymore.

i put like 800+ hours into first league and game was amazing, all that needed adjusting was the OP builds.

You could make an off meta build and still make it good/carry 6 people grps.

edit**
was level 78 doing tier 8 maps
2k hp
70% evade
30% DR
43% block chance

perfidy with 35% chance to avoid physical attacks and decent gear, more than adequate even if im not

I’ve been thinking more about this, as a player that has played Poe1 since its inception (Beta).

In Poe 1 for instance, when Atziri came out, it was interesting how she had multiple phases you had to fight through, you may have a build that could get through the first phase, but there was a “dps” check built in… when she’s immune a bunch of mobs run to her and heal her if you don’t kill them fast enough. Making it impossible to win the fight if you weren’t strong enough. Could be annoying for people sure, but it’s a clear path to victory, farm, get more powerful, more dmg, more AOE, etc. whatever the case may be the path to victory was deterministic. That type of hard, feels good. Furthermore, if the devs think it’s too easy, they can easily adjust that to what degree of difficulty it should be, while it stays deterministic.

Poe2 already does this throughout the campaign, if you don’t have enough damage for Viper, you may not die during the fight, but eventually if you don’t kill her fast enough, the walls close in, it gets harder, you will run out of flask charges. This is a way to require your character be at a certain level of power before you can move on.

Ascending should feel the same way IMO. It’s sad when you can kill the bosses in trials wishing seconds, you don’t even get hit, but then you brick your run because of an affliction. You could have 7000 honor, 75 honor resistance, and you are still forced to take a minimum of 3-5 afflictions through the 3 trials. Maybe you have to run the Chaos trials 10+ times to make it to the last boss once, especially on your first character in the league because of the random downsides.

The truth of it is, and I’ve already said this, but it’s worth repeating. It’s easier to blast T15 maps, and farm a few exalts than go through these trials, which again are not deterministic, it’s gate kept by time consumption, farming or paying for the trials tokens themselves, then the relics if doing sanctum, and both of them having a bunch of RNG involved.

Just make it deterministic, bosses are great, put phases, dps checks, etc, even Izaro has different abilities, different days, different layouts, that’s stuff is cool, luck being a factor is NOT!!!
