Do you feel like we are in one of these "Death of a game" videos?

Which are both fair, subjective points, and I have no problems understanding your point of view. It just goes to show you that all players are different and want different things from the game, hence; people find their "peak" in different leagues.

Yes all true....except the person I was responding to wasn't "subjectively" claiming that 3.25 was peak. He was trying to use faulty data to make an objective claim. Which is, frankly, stupid.

Well, "peak player numbers" is a thing and can also be used to point out some kind of "peak". When more players than ever return to a league, it does indicate that a lot of players like the current state of the game.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
If we going by personal preference 3.13 was the golden era of PoE and patch 3.15 was the big downfall.
I play the crap out of both games so I don't get it.
I'm just so fucking tired of losing maps and having this VVVVVV be my network. The constant ping spikes are making it unplayable. They have also introduced some weird CPU spikes, where the game freezes for a few seconds and then the gears pop up and it's back to normal, with the red bar (CPU) indicating a huge spike. It's making me paranoid, making me think my CPU is having issues.

This is literally the best game ever made if you an ARPG fan.
Dead? There were still over 100,000 players as of 2 minutes ago. A week and a half into the league. I'd say it's pretty far from dead.
For me ... the nerv @ settlers destroy so many constant builds (dont forget they do the same @poe2).That was a big downer, but Settlers was a good League !
AND the terrible Server on both games, thats a nogo for a argp. '(even settlers wasnt performant)
GGG just quiet about it and do there "Streamer marketing". (i just hate it)
i dont care about peak or other stuff ,bec its pointless.
Something goes wrong @GGG ,its not the company we loved and supported for their work.I have guys on my friendlist for 13 years and many of them got pi**d.
If and when PoE 1 dies, it will be GGG that killed it in favor of their new baby PoE 2. When that does happen, I will log off for the last time and move to other ARPG's that respect my time and potential financial support. Plenty of other games to play out there.

https://steamcharts.com/app/2694490#1y

there are 15k players on PoE2
there are 100k on poe same as 2019 peak.

Does GGG have more players online now than ever ... no
But it is a chunk so they might be happy.
For now.

But both are trending down.
And poe1 is being inflated by poe2 fail.

2 months from now is my benchmark.
Ill bet fewer than 30k playing both combined.

Poe1 is getting old
Poe2 is full of problems, not just technical.

Oh yea, PoE 2 is completely fucked. They got too big for their shoes, they wanted to create a new genre, put their names in the history books and get a ton of new players. Buuuuuuuuut it really doesn't work like this now, does it

as per....everything I wrote in this thread...."peak player numbers" is a completely useless metric that misleads more than it actually "points" to any real data.

It offers zero insight into whether players "like the current state of the game" for all the reasons I already outlined. Nor is it even a good measure of "returning players". It's pretty obvious right? If it were a good metric of RETURNING players, then the peak wouldn't consistently change league after league. And you have absolutely no idea from that data point what proportion is "returning" and what is "new".

I'm not rehashing the same conversation and posts I already made but if you want to latch onto "peak numbers" as meaningful data, it just shows you don't understand data. Peak data is ONLY useful for very very few inferences:
1) How successful advertising was: directly determines a rising or falling peak league after league. Because returning players wouldn't INCREASE a peak. Reaching a new audience increases a peak.

2) How bored or inactive the arpg community in general is: the less new games out, the less GOOD games out, the more likely people are going to jump from one game to another for the "shiny new toy". But they will quickly leave if they DISLIKE the game. Hence why the peak immediately plummets and is rendered utterly useless for determining actual game success.
Starting anew....with PoE 2
