Thank goodness I checked forums , I've having the exact same issue and when I can get ingame (did once) when I tried to portal back to town I would get error failed to join instance.
Glad to know its not me ,I just spent 30 minutes verifying game files , checking anti virus exceptions , speed testing and checking internet connection and speed , checking drivers all up to date ect. If i had looked sooner I could have saved myself some panic. |

RANDOM SOLUTION:
Login to another server, enter a new town / zone, log back in to your original server and character should load. |
