its just me or this league is mid af?
Since Modern PoE (3.0) Mercenaries might be the worst league mechanic ever implemented. It does absolutely nothing. 99% of the 'loot' from them is trash. Farming T16s and 16.5's (when they drop) and its awful. The Mercs themselves are mostly useless... granted over the hundreds of maps Ive run I found 2 useful Mercs - One has Zealotry/Wrath while the other has Grace/Haste. Thats good until I realize Id rather not bother using them at all. Just more useless screen clutter.
Personally, this is the actual worst Expansion to date. Every single other expansion phased out the old one and replaced it with a new mapping style - here we are still doing Eldritch and Maven farming. I want to do more memories not farm Eldritch or Maven for the last 3 years. Also, put back actual real league mechanics to enjoy whether it be Tota or Synthesis Memory Map Fragments from Synth League. Those were at least real league mechanics and not find a PoE 2 Rogue Exile in PoE 1. Easily one of the worst Expansions and League Mechanics since 3.0 has existed IMO. Mercenaries of Trarthus? Nah. More Like Mercenaries of Trashthus. Youtube - PartTimeExile

League is the same as settlers. Just mercs in your group right now and they drop crappy items all the time. Meta didn't change anything. All builds are viable like last patch

I thought the league was quite good, relatively speaking. The mercenary mechanics are accessible and adds a new dimension to your build. The new originator bosses were done well and were fun to fight. The music is great. And many of the quality of life changes are great. Love the map device stash..
The problems with PoE1 are unfortunately not because of this league, but because of much deeper underlying issues involving how damage scaling works, lack of defenses relative to the damage, and by extension the one-click screen-clear incentivized meta. The game is played this way not because it is necessarily fun, but because most people will adopt builds that are more effective for clear/progression speed if available, at the expense of what might otherwise be a more fun way to play. |

It's been getting progressively worse ever since they added t17's and got rid of sextants. They have made a number of changes that make progression through the atlas both more of a slog, and less rewarding.
The merc stuff is ok I guess, the whole mechanic might as well stop existing after you hire the one you want because otherwise their rewards suck. I talk to a merc, and my options at risk of getting one-shot are hire them, exile them, or take like 2c of currency from their bag. I've started ignoring most of them because the reward just isn't worth it most of the time. The petal stuff is weird. The only power I've seen myself so far basically gives me stacks of soul-eater, which is completely useless to me because I play minions. Yay. General discussion gaming forums are almost always a cesspit of ignorance and trolls.

" This is just a personal preference thing, but I really hated the sextants system. Found them pretty tedious and slowed things down, conducive to FOMO etc Sometimes the mercs will be carrying multiple divine orbs :O I agree with you on the petals. Was not my favorite thing, but I considered it a minor aspect. Last edited by WhisperSlade#0532 on Jun 27, 2025, 2:15:14 AM

I hate to admit it but I feel the same. I usually play roughly 5 to 10 weeks of a new league. I have already checked out of this one. There just isn't any cool new gameplay elements able to grip me in this league.

well mercs are straight up powercreep/rarity mod which is needed to stay in tune with the new memories etc. when you think about that it is quite a bad design decision, next league will be even worse through that.
at least it shows you, the bad t17 mechanics still suck on t16 too. still, its alright to play. Current Build: Penance Brand

Is it even mid? What does this league offer?
1. A personal aurabot npc 2. One duel per map, roughly yielding a div every hundred encounters 3. A couple new skill gems Where is the depth? It was fun for a while, because it is new content for PoE 1 after all, but when you consider what the league brings to the table it looks kinda bleak. Regarding the expansion, it offers just another type of map to juice as well as three bosses that have a lot of hp but don't feel dangerous like ubers once did. The starting sequences of the boss fights are great because of the voice lines and visuals, but that's about it. What comes to mind as well is unfinished stuff like the reward room quest still showing up after killing mastermind. But there are no reward rooms anymore. It feels unpolished, even rushed. Furthermore, T17s still being problematic etc. In general, only visuals and sounds are well done. The visual design of everything related to Secrets of the Atlas is awesome, e.g. releasing petal skills onto mobs. As always, those people are doing an outstanding job for both, PoE 1 and 2. |

" I am yet to see at least one divine orb or any valuable loot on the merc screen. So far the best thing I saw were a pair of 50c gloves. |

Every streamer I watch is literally ignoring mercenaries at high level. They don't even look at their inventory, everyone skips. Merc is the league mechanic... sure they did some changes with this patch not only added seasonal mechanic but nothing crazy.
People are fooling themselves, they are literally playing settler league with an official reset and some balance/change patches. |
