Ruthless became a joke.

I really don't see a point in Ruthless anymore.

The people who developed and cared for that mode are no longer at the company and imo it was only a testing ground for PoE2 anyways, which now is in a playable state.

Hopefully they just shut it down at some point, instead of letting it wither away with each new patch.

To add to that Hellgate London from original Blizzard North failed pretty badly. Torchlight 2 also didn't take off. TL2 wasn't bad but just didn't flourish because times changed.

To add to the other guy who talked about TL2....Hellgate London was a brilliant game. It failed because of OTHER issues outside of the actual gameplay, such as lack of funding / company going bankrupt mid-development / persistent graphical issues / unfixed bugs / etc. The reasons behind Hellgate: London's downfall were almost all entirely out of the control of the actual Blizzard North idea-men and base game quality.

Really not a good example here....
Starting anew....with PoE 2

I agree, I really enjoyed TL2 and Hellgate:London back in the day. Hellgate definitely had potential, but one could easily spot problems during development. It was a sad afair in the end.

They spend more resources ordering lunch for the office than resources spent on ruthless. Ruthless isn't the boogieman most want it to be. Especially with Chris gone.

Spoiler
i feel like mistakes were made, ruthless was done in their spare time and thrown together, it was experimental but the reaction from the pitchfork town criers was so extreme it became a completely toxic subject so they could never make the changes and experiment with the mode. any time they mentioned something to do with ruthless they were verbally assaulted for spending time on it, any time a nerf happened in poe1 it was now proof that ruthless was invading the game,
it just become impossible to do something cool with ruthless and make it work.

thats probably why chris left, hes couldnt even just mess around with ruthless and have our feedback, share it with us as this cool little project. instead it was used as a weapon of hate to attack him and call for him to resign every day.

Spoiler
i think the idea is cool, i dont rly think the implementation has ever been right and now that we have poe2 thats become a way to reimagine poe without the gratuitous power creep and its doing it way better than ruthless ever will. i kind of agree with panikouk, if i was in charge id probably just take it out back and shoot it, bury it in the car park.

maybe when poe2 is fully released and theres some breathing room make a new version of starvation mode poe1, rebranded and allowed to breath.

The reason is different and has nothing to do with Ruthless being good or not.
He felt unfulfilled with being a CEO with mainly managing work so he retired and after about a year started a new dev studio /gaming project where he can personally go more hands-on so to speak.

Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks
