Horrible gaming experience on new QD-OLED monitor, is this another 100th topic for the archive?
I'm currently playing with cloning parts of the screen, so that the static game interface doesn't burn the OLED screen. It looks terrible, and the performance of the cloned images is about 8-9 fps.
![]() Is it really that hard to make a semi-transparent game interface? roughly the same principle as the minimap transparency slider, or just give the ability to completely hide the interface via hotkeys or just via the command line in Path of Exile.exe -No UI Last bumped on Jul 24, 2025, 2:22:39 PM

Your modern panel has mechanisms to prevent burn in, even when it displays static elements. I have 4k+ hours of such games on my CX and C4 combined, both are still as crisp as the day I bought them.
Enjoy your new toy and don't stress too much about it. |

This feels like it's feedback on your own decisions rather than Path of Exile.
If you care that much about the risk of burn-in, surely a better option is to play in a very large window which maybe once an hour or so you reposition slightly? You'd still get your health globe, etc... Although to be candid, if you're losing sleep over the risk your QD-OLED monitor will be subject to burn-in, the better course of action might've been not to buy an OLED screen in the first place. " I tried to play at 38 brightness (out of 50) and 45 contrast, and custom RGB setups with reduced blue color at -5, after 300 hours of gameplay (it took about 13-15 hours every day) I noticed small crescent-shaped spots from the energy shield on a dark gray background of my Firefox browser in dark theme, as well as 5 rows in the form of my flasks... 27" Samsung Odyssey G61SD monitor, it has been in operation for less than a month, and small traces of damage to the screen are already visible, at this rate it will work for only half a year before more serious problems with retention image " Initially, I tried to drag the game window on the desktop, this will delay burnout, of course, but the bright energy shield acts quite aggressively on the screen pixels, even if i forget to move the window after 50 minutes, it will slightly affect on matrix |

This problem lies 0% with PoE and 100% with your monitor.

Sounds a lot like the monitor is faulty, if it's experiencing burn in that quickly even with the steps you're taking to mitigate it. Is it returnable?

" Most likely, Samsung monitors are subject to burn-in, their advertised passive cooling just a loud marketing, as a result, the screen burns almost like those yearly OLED TVs that appeared on the market, or they are not telling me something... In internet many people say, what burn-in is not returnable, it's impossible to proof defect What I see on my screen now, dark gray does not look like a perfect uniform color fill, and this is only on one color the defect is noticeable, on other colors: red, green, blue, yellow, purple, orange, white, traces of burn-in are not visible at all, but this does not mean that I should continue to use the monitor in the same spirit and hope that screen optimization every 4 hours will be able to fix these superficial traces, in fact, all that optimization does is hide traces of burn-in, and stupid pixel shifting does nothing at all, except shift the image on the pixels from side to side, while there is no sense in the fact that a white pixel has shifted to white, blue to blue... all these protections against burn-in do only false protection Last edited by WickedStranger#5141 on Jul 23, 2025, 8:34:51 PM

you might eventually get some screenburn but the monitors in built protections are pretty good...that and oled technology has improved since screenburn was a major concern.

meant to say earlier.....its a monitor issue. If its less than a month old, you should likely be under unconditional warranty. Act quickly.
Nearly every electronic device at that pricepoint comes with some sort of unconditional 30-day return policy, or even longer. Unless of course there is physical damage like you dropped it. But even then, you might still be able to talk them into taking it back. If you bought it from a physical store or amazon, that's even more likely under warranty through them.....and not through Samsung which probably puts heavier limits.
