Recombinator

First attempts to use Recombinator were very unimpressive. The first bows I wanted to recombine had a 10% chance of success and poofed on me of course. The second set had a 3.65% success rate which is just unbelievable. There is no incentive to try with such horrible rates.

Recombinator is just a rage bait.

I have used it about 40 times so far in 0.3, odds been between 3% and 70%. Only two (2) have been successful. F*king miserable experience.
If you want to combine any high level and decent affixes, your chances are practically non-existent. That's why I call it the wood chipper 5000. You're better off just sharding the pieces.

I might have used this mechanic once or twice. I have hundreds of hours in the game already and every time I think of using it I immediately close it and move on. It feels like the most unintuitive, janky system in the game imo.

Is it actually good? Should I invest some time into it?

There is no investment. The people crying about that mechanic don't understand, that it's for crap you pick from the floor, which otherwise you wouldn't even sell.

2 rares of the same type with t1 mods you want, try and combine them, doesn't work out, move on.

Better trying to merge them for a chance on good stuff, than to sell it for gold, or not even pick it up.

But for some people that's too high of a concept to grasp.

in POE 1 they were so powerful they stripped them down to the bare basics and made the rates utterly stupid as fuck.

in POE 1 it was never like that, they couldn't poof, you got one mod from one weapon, one mod from the other, back and forth -- and you got an item afterwards, guaranteed. If bricked, it's usually POSSIBLE to recombinate with another still if needed.

I think having less than 50% odds is disgusting personally.

Oh, ok. During early/mid endgame, is it worth using the recombinator, vendor, or disenchant rares? The ones I can't sell in the marketplace.

Recombinator is just the last bastion for items which are worth nothing but have that one t1 mod.
Yeah, I bought junk rare rings with T1/T2 flat damage on them to recombine for a craft. Still using the rings at 90+ with all content cleared. Not streamer-level crafts but obviously good enough.

I think the chances were 7-12%? I made 2 prismatic rings this way. I think I paid up to 5ex for lightning and 1ex for cold. Probably costs more now, though. Anyways, it was like 15 recombines total(30 rings). Less than 100ex at the time.
Recombinator is great.

It's completely viable as a way to make items that have two of the mods you are looking for. Then they can be a great base for desecrating and exalting. It would be great if items generated by the recombinator that had two mods were blue so that you could use essences, but oh well.

For crafting really good items, you have to combine the fracturing orb with the recombinator. With the right fracturing combinations and some attempts you can get a good item with 3 affixes you want and a good base. Then just do a desecration and you get 4 proper affixes? I think that's pretty cool personally.
