Successful Looter + Dark Souls game already exists. GGG please take inspiration from it!
" I had no idea this happened. I wonder how they'll try to deny this one as well. "Sigh"

Yeah yeah yeah they only said "soulslike" mecanics, you can interpret this all you want but in the end PoE2 is an ARPG, if dodging alone makes you believe this is a Soullike (like the sponsored dude says, even the title says "kinda-soullike"), that's on you if you wanna push that narrative but clearly, PoE2 is ARPG before anything, soul-like player won't necesseraly like PoE2, it was just marketing.

" No one said GGG was marketing poe2 as the next dark souls, but if you hear what is said in that video, it's things like "change of pace to a more slower gameplay" that made it interesting to dark souls players, and obviously also why someone like that was sponsored to play Telegraphed attacks, giant bosses, dodge roll, slower pace... If you can't see the "souls-like" influence, then it's pointless to say anything else Last edited by iHiems#0168 on Sep 25, 2025, 8:20:38 AM

" This is nice watch, thank you! I wonder why PoE2 streams don't look like this, this is actually interesting to watch. Hopefully the endgame will look more like this as well. Killing Mektul at the end of arena, not a thing in "best ever" patch 0.3 :( |

" Well, I stand corrected. Mark did say BOSSES use souls-like mechanics, but not the overall game. Honestly I wish they stuck with that as the overall setup, but instead the game itself is standard ARPG with bosses (that can be easily trivialized) having mechanics inspired by soulslike mechanics. |

I've put more hours into this game than I have into Nioh 2. And I'm a big fan of the Nioh series. But I ended up putting about 400 hours into each of them (which is still good). So whatever GGG is doing I'd say they're doing it better than Nioh (in terms of end-game and keeping players engaged).

" The difference is that this game has a huge community by the nature of being an online service game and building off a decade+ of community building on a masterpiece of a game (PoE1). PoE also has seasons with new content every cycle that encourages people to come back. Whereas with Nioh 2 is a singleplayer game with optional multiplayer (but not online service) and you just play until you're done. Compare how much you play Nioh 2 to a single season of PoE2. Would you put as many hours as you have into Nioh 2 into a single season of PoE2? |

A really good point made in that GGG video on boss combat:
"We want something that, if it hits you, it FEELS like it hits you" Unfortunately their game doesn't reflect this statement. You know what doesn't do that? 1hko attacks lol. You know what we have in most circumstances of GOOD combat? 1hkos. For something to really FEEL like a hit, it has to specifically NOT kill you so that you have to actively play to recover: whether that means running away, using a potion, using a different skill, etc. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Sep 25, 2025, 9:04:47 PM

" Part of the issue with that is how they want to swarm you with mobs and they have this pushing physics that just instantly shifts your position (adds an offset to your character) and doesn't interrupt anything (except what stuns your character might experience) instead of applying an acceleration to your character and maybe a bit of rag-doll (like getting knocked into a wall and having to get back up in Monster Hunter). They could do that if they slowed down the combat a lot and crafted the monster attacks to be compatible with that kind of combat (and you usually get some invul frames when getting up so you don't get instant killed, but it's a dangerous position). There is nothing stopping them from doing that, except that they don't want to. |
