Everyone is taking about new leagues and loot, but what about the POE1 4.0?

I know that POE2 meant to be 4.0 expansion but since the Fall of Oriath in 2017 no new acts have been introduced. Yes, some changes in epilogue was made but that is more to do with the endgame.
I wonder if POE1 has any major change to the core game (classes/acts/engine) somewhere in a pipeline or superficial leagues and expansions (I know Mark said he wants to work on expansion) all that POE1 will ever get? What do you think? Should POE1 acts/classes/engine be changed or are they best left untouched? Last bumped on Dec 1, 2025, 2:00:35 AM

I'm surprised nobody ever askes this during dev interviews. One of the things that got lost in the game split was a lot of the fixes that were supposed to come to PoE1. Personally, I would really like to see another option for leveling - I almost don't care what it is, just SOMETHING to break the monotony of the campaign. Or even something like an option for the lantern on subsequent playthroughs.
Streamlining the socketing system I would be down for. Especially coloring, I don't feel it adds any meaningful agency. I could see a system where any gem could be socketed anywhere, and matching socket colors gives a minor boost like 3% damage or +2 of an attribute of something. As for the other stuff, it's pretty much the same engine, the big difference is the character rigs, which...is just gonna take a long time to come in. Ascendancies get reworks often enough to keep classes fresh. Would definitely like something else for the Ascendant. |

They will not add new classes to PoE1 anytime soon as the passive tree depends on attribute affinities and each combination is tied to a region

I assume it's self-explanatory that we won't see big expansions in POE1 until after POE2 is released and several leagues-deep.

" I honestly don't think we will ever see major updates to PoE anymore. Even after PoE2 is "finished", they will always be working on the next big update for that game instead. PoE will get the scraps and maybe some stuff they initially designed for PoE2, but decided to put into PoE instead. Hopefully we get another Atlas expansion at some point, because the last one was not very exciting. I have no desire to run those memories and I don't care for the bosses at all. ???? I just the game to run better than a NES game at this point. No game that I've played before stops rendering after a mechanic pops up.
The loot situation is absolute part of the elephant in the room yes but without a decent performance you can't even play the game. "Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."
Poe 0.2/10 Returning to poe in 3.27: ATROCIOUS game performance, 5/10 league and I apprently missed the loot back in the last league. The more things change the more they stay the same.. |

I think it should be clear by now that PoE2 is everything that PoE1 players lost.
PoE2 was expected to be that big Oriath-style expansion with more acts, big class/tree overhaul and graphics update. |
