Melee

Melee feels terrible for so many reasons. One of the biggest is that every rare mob on every map in endgame has multiple effects that can dmg or slow or poison or drain MELEE (close proximity) SPECIFICALLY. I get into situations where I can't even fight a group if there's more than one rare. It's very obvious why everyone just chooses a bow with maximum dmg over anything else. Melee in no way is worth the extra bs you have to deal with. Also, periodically releases X is more like frequently releases X... it's ALWAYS on the ground.
I truly don't understand how these obvious issues don't stand out to people testing the game. Abyss is at least 10x harder in melee than just shooting a bow into a group. On top of that if you happen to get lucky and find a +6 melee skill weapon you're hurting your own character because a wolf will be able to use 2 attacks before having to resort to swinging wildly with a basic attack and praying. Bows will pierce groups enemies and easily recover all mana to continue prancing along clearing maps. The last and MOST IMPORTANT issue is that as a whole, defenses are terrible in this game. You are much better off staying away from enemies as much as possible because your defensive layers do not work well unless you decide to do 1 of 3 things to maximize your defense which shape the entire build and how you move through the passive tree. Also, you will never convince me that a slow effect on melee doesn't slow the character far more than a slow effect on any other class. Temporal chains, hindering, etc. will turn your attacks into molasses and instantly kill you. LOVE IT.... Overall, it's frustrating to say the least. Guess I'll just go back to finding a different way to use a bow on every character in the game until something drastic changes. Last bumped on Dec 17, 2025, 12:17:20 PM

So insightful. I'm sure your advice would be a very specific way to not deal with this and you probably didn't read what I actually wrote but thanks for your opinion. Glad you got to hit your quota of 2 forum posts a day. Super normal lmao

I just don’t share your sentiment on your broad statements you have to say about the player base
As well as selectively ignoring things that are quite common in end game that force you into close quarters even if you do play ranged. You say you will just play ranged though, so I guess melee just isn’t the archetype for you Mash the clean

" Okay bot literally didn't say anything about "the player base". My opinion is my opinion. Sorry you feel however you feel though lol |

" " I would offer help to alleviate what experiences you have in your opening post with melee. As I have none of your issues as a melee character as well. But it would seem you want to just play ranged as you believe its just "not worth" playing melee. Mash the clean

I agree. I prefer the melee feel in games, but it's really frustrating in PoE2. Specifically Mace is far too slow. Completing many attacks with mace effectively requires the player to be hit 1-15 times depending on mob density and proximity. Ground effects seem almost constant and as with absorbing hits, if you want to do anything other than cancel animations, you have to soak max damage, just to get a single hit off. On top of that, melee outputs lower damage it seems. Slower, worse damage output, worse defense situation. Then, poor loot and poor crafting make problem solving a nightmare. I have to spam heal pots just to survive, in a constant manner. Two white mobs are almost as much of a headache as a rare with 20 whites. Every engage is bam - 70% health instantly, heal pot, bam -30%, -40%, heal pot.. ad nauseam.
I am not the Dev, so it's not my job to solve these issues. It's just my job to decide if I continue to play and support the game/company.. I can offer basic suggestions from my point of view: -Speed up Mace -Improve the defensive options we have -Rebalance white mobs generally -Slow down mob attack speeds and or movement speeds -Offer us more options to speed up our attack/movement speeds -Get rid of the "push" mechanics that simulates de-syncing and glitching across the screen (actually who the F thought this was good????????) -Disconnect dodge and sprint or allow us to opt out of sprint all together -Give us real movement skills (Ruthless was a miserable failure but you went with it anyhow..?) Movement skills were a far better system of potion management in fights than dodge, dodge, dodge, dodge again... -Give us more/better loot and or basic deterministic crafting options so we can at least solve fundamental issues as we go!
