its not just armour you have as defensive options too

i turned my melee into CI build, currently 10.5k es, 8k armour, 40% elemental amrour migtation. its fine doing 3 player 800% effectivness temples, and can tank t16 map hard bosses like monkey etc. but u do need alot of damage to clear mobs and burst down bosses.

My Smith of Kitava with 27K armor, overcapped all resistances (79% for all elemental resistances), 250%+ armour applied to elemental, 100% applied to chaos, 9% reduced physical damage taken, 41% block chance, with 2.7K life is far, far, far squishier than my Sorceress with 10K ES and not even capped resistances.

It makes no sense whatsoever...

This is only true in a certain kind of scenario - surviving large hits.

ES doesn't do well against chaos hits and usually needs a lot more to deal with ailments.

You have all that armour and block so it means you can shrug off almost everything except for big slams, which I'm guessing you usually try to roll out of but maybe don't make it out in time - consider the Bulwark keystone (which is slept on quite a bit).

It makes it so you can't avoid damage while dodge rolling but you take 30% less damage from hits while doing so. You can still block (non-red attacks), and they are all mitigatable on top of the 30%. This is the kind of thing that will let you survive errant boss-slams that would otherwise kill when mis-dodging.

You can't suddenly roll around dodging projectiles anymore but with your block, armour, and elemental defenses, it sounds like it wouldn't bother you very much anyways and I'm guessing with the level of mitigation you've got, any recovery/recoup mechanisms would make that downside feel even less noticeable.
