Unpopular Opinion? Build diversity is still pretty bad.

Wanted to share my thoughts on the matter. I am not sure if I am correct on this so will be happy with your take on the issue. Plus, some of my frustration with making builds.
I think class diversity is better, but I feel like it's only because the Druid was introduced. And actual build diversity is pretty bad. Most "builds" are same old things over and over again. Same things from previous leagues plus talismans. CoC Comet, basically spark, etc. And every "build" just has a headhunter. PoE Ninja has lots of variety but those are not builds, most of them just have a bunch of skills that only work because the game is so easy you can do all content naked. I've been trying to make a few builds for myself, and I am a little frustrated with lots of arbitrary restrictions. Can't use with X, Limit on Y, Doesn't work with X etc. Is this something PoE1 had? Do players have more freedom in PoE1? I am also not saying that you can't make builds in this game. I am more talking about mechanics having a restriction that is not consistent with anything else and was added just for that one interaction. For example, Gathering Storm being restricted from Ancestral Boost. Why? Just because it can become a decent AOE clear skill that still won't be used by majority of people because of wind up animation. Last bumped on Jan 12, 2026, 2:48:10 AM

How is this an unpopular opinion? The game is designed to accommodate limited builds because of the combo gameplay. I've said it multiple times already - many skills are not supposed to do damage but to boost other skills which do. The build variety is bad by design.

There are still many important parts not in game, like sword and axes. Also many things need love like bleed.
Its still EA. Just give them time. Play Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing instead PoE2. |

" What swords have to do with a quarterstaff skill not being able to get ancestraly boosted? EA excuse has gone too far and doesnt make sense. |
|
" Gathering storm is not a strike/slam skill. Plenty of quarterstaff skills can be ancestrally boosted, but they must be a strike or slam skill. read the descriptions. "Beidat honored the pact, though Beardat wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."

" Quarterstaff skills that can be ancestrally boosted(AKA are slams): -Falling Thunder -Vaulting Impact |

You kind of contradict yourself halfway into your post “but that’s only because…”
Build diversity is pretty nice I’d say over previous leagues Mash the clean

" Yes, you are right. For some reason that skill still needed the clarification. Probably because it behaves a lot similar to strikes. You are missing the point though, i could just say that the skill needs to have a strike tag and it doesnt because its another arbitrary restriction. Same point, get it? You might've learned to read but you need to also undersand the actual point of the things being said. |

" You might want to check what contradiction means. |

" STRIKES and slams. Flicker strike, basic attack, whirling assault, ice strike, killing palm, shattering palm, tempest flurry, staggering palm. And im not sure what you meant by "For some reason that skill still needed the clarification." reading the description, it does not sound like a strike or slam. its a channeled travel skill that damages things in an area along the way. "Beidat honored the pact, though Beardat wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype." Last edited by Direfell#7544 on Jan 11, 2026, 1:15:11 PM
