They know it is the better game but since for some reason it is becoming less popular than poe 2. They will slowly secretly kill it. Here is some evidence.
-There is no reflect mechanic in poe 2 but they kept this archaic dumb mechanic in poe 1 just to annoy you and switch to poe 2.
-They removed loot in 3.27 and made you drop divine every minute in poe 2 temple.
-the 3.27 mechanic is just some quick rush copy from poe 2 idea.
So people like me that like poe 1 hc are without options. I am done supporting the company.
I fully expect every new poe 1 league to be some quick low effor maintenance mode boring mechanic.
I also fully expect them to never remove reflect, because they hate players that choose the harder difficulty (hc).

Of course, like almost every game with a sequel in the history of games. It's (sadly) inevitable.
D2 will outlive D3 :)

Yeah, I goofed around for 30 minutes on it. It was a bit too clunky. I could see enjoying that back in the 90s though.
