No RMT, no notifications, no one had access.
I travel for work, I had been playing from a laptop in a hotel. There was no one else in the room. I did some work with skill and support gems, a few short trips into combat areas for testing and back to town.
No trades and no chat interaction. I honestly don't have any idea what caused it. If you could see what the account has for items / currency you would know this is true.
I have used NeverSink's filter for years, I agree its unlikely. The trouble is there is literally nothing else it could be. This is why I was hoping GGG would find out what caused it so it doesn't happen again.
It's an ASUS gaming laptop. I normally don't play from it, the first time I did this is what happened.
To the toxic responses, laugh while it's not you until it is, then it won't be so funny and the toxic responses will be as welcome as they are to me now.
And you were using hotel wifi I reckon? That's reckless.
Edit to clarify: using hotel wifi, you are risking your data and online identity. These networks are often weakly secured which allows hackers to sniff for packets or perform man-in-the-middle attacks. It is possible you were not even connected to the hotel's wifi but a fake hotspot. If you have to use it, use a VPN to encrypt your traffic. Disable file sharing. Use MFA where possible. I'd still recommend using mobile data though.
If you are travelling for work, are you guys not having any data/information security instructions? Like, how is your first conclusion that it somehow must be a loot filter which is literally just a text file not even located on your own PC.

Hello, old friend, I'm afraid that's all you'll get here on these forums anymore.
I was falsely banned a while ago in PoE 1 for the same thing. The only thing I can think of that triggered the ban was either using a free-spinning mouse wheel to fast scroll thru stash tabs or from using a VPN. I'm leaning more toward the mouse being the issue, do you also happen have a free-spinning mouse wheel?
The ban was eventually overturned and I got my account back but it did take quite a while to go through the process.
But as to the OP, there is no chance the loot filter is to blame.

Not everyone uses loot filters the same way as you. Mine are located on my own PC...
Just a lowly standard player. May RNGesus be with you.
Stop trying to make people play the game like you do. If they don't enjoy it how about just leave it at that?

I'm not slandering anyone.
You are blaming him and his work for your ban - without ANY reasons to do so - on an official forum. The amount of ignorance here, is crazy.
As far as I know, this is a guy that actually got a job offer from GGG. A guy that that is the baseline for all loot filters.
He isn't the problem here. His filters aren't the problem here. Try again.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Be advised that NeverSink's loot filter linked to the poe account may cause an account ban for use of third-party software. Although this is a function allowed by GGG directly, be aware it is the only third party software being utilized while playing poe2 EA.
And again...

I really do hope it was the former - GGG have themselves encouraged VPN use as a troubleshooting step and / or workaround disproportionately frequently in the Technical Support forum section both in the sticky thread and back when staff used to post there. If following their own advice could get accounts flagged for third-party software, that's a disaster.
I'm glad you got your account back in the end.
Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support.

Hello, old friend, I'm afraid that's all you'll get here on these forums anymore.
Other players have never been able to help anyone with bans. It's up to ggg what happens. Blaming an item filter made everything go south instantly anyway, as we all know that's not the reason for the ban.

Thanks :)
The vpn worries me a bit, what happens when a bad actor uses the same vpn as you and you somehow get a similar IP? I don't know if that's possible but that's the only thing I could come up with. I've always been very anti-3rd party software when it comes to this game so it was kind of amusing to get banned for that.

I have another account, it has been banned for the use of third party software.
I had been playing PoE 2 early access. NeverSink's loot filter was being utilized, linked to the account. There was nothing else running on the system working with PoE 2. There were a few internet browser tabs open on a second monitor.
I advised GGG support, and offered full and unrestricted access to anything and everything on the system. I explained that I'm willing to help in any way I can to allow identification of what caused the false-positive for cheating resulting in the account ban and facilitate a correction so that this doesn't happen again in the future .. to me, or other players. The response indicated that the policy doesn't allow the release of any information that would allow me to cheat better.
Be advised that NeverSink's loot filter linked to the poe account may cause an account ban for use of third-party software. Although this is a function allowed by GGG directly, be aware it is the only third party software being utilized while playing poe2 EA.
Consider any financial purchases for an account a non-tax deductible donation allowing temporary enjoyment and use of until the RNG account ban hits your account. Be prepared to lose access to anything purchased and be forced to begin again with a new account at any time.
Think twice about dismissing any credibility to a player's notification that their account has been banned for doing nothing wrong. This is real, this is happening, and there appears to be no interest in fixing it.
** I retract everything above if the use of NeverSink's loot filter is a violation that I was not aware of. If the use of the loot filter is a violation, please consider terminating the function that allows this.
no..... you were absolutely doing something else.
