Kiracs pass in practice casual unfriendly
|
Hey all,
Maybe im beating some dead horse here, id just like to rant abit about the kiracs pass. TL;DR kiracs rewards are to lowodds of success for a casual gamer fairly new to this game. Also relevant information left out at purcha ————— Im a casual gamer in my forties. I get about 15 hours of gaming per week on the evenings when im having a gaming streak. Played alot of d2 d4 then poe 2. I started playing poe 1 mostly because of the mtx rewards that i also can use in poe 2. I played the latest poe 2 league awhile then switched into the keepers league admittedly late, half way through. I did the same thing last spring with similiar experiences went over to the first phrecia league made a first honest attempt at learning and hitting end game in poe. So ive started twice in mid poe league with the intent of getting mtx for my account. Now to my gripes with this. With my current gametime and knowledge of the game, and the labyrithine complexity of it, i have twice now been unable to clear the kiracs rewards. As it stands with one week left i have a pair of shoes. Last time phrecia suddenly ended and i was left mid league with an unusable build (due to ascendancies changing). So i only got two mtx from that league. I will admit i rage quited after a few days of trying to work it out. I also find the in game information regarding all this, how it works, the conditions, how long you have a shot at it, when league ends and so on to be completely atrocious. When entering mapping(?) you get a popup offering the ladder. Regardless if phrecia ends, if there is a week left or any of the other terms. My point is this game is complex, and im now completely discouraged from playing poe for mtx. a newbie like me cant predict how easy the reward ladder will be through kiraks or achievments, its honestly slightly overwhelming trying to encompass the smartest ways for progress and have a grip on ones odds of success with the sometimes unclear and changing timetables. The amount of grind needed for the achievment mtx this league has been frankly bisarre at least when starting midladder. Long story short i think that a payed kiracs reward ladder should follow a character to standard league so that one is given an fair shot at gaining what one thought one bought for money. |

Heyo!
So, I do think there's some confusion here;
I don't want to be the bad guy here - but I'll be honest. I genuinely do believe you're perfectly capable of earning all of the paid track's rewards from Kirac's Pass, if you check when the next challenge league is set to begin and choose to show up on week one and stick with it as long as it takes. It's only when we start stacking comparatively limited playtime, choosing not to play for ~half or more of the league, and still getting to grips with the game that things perhaps grow untenable. But these factors are somewhat exponential with one another - if you're less experienced and thus less efficient with your time, having limited playtime is more punishing, and if in that context you choose not to play for half the league, then... yeah. The deck is stacked against you. I sincerely do not wish to be unkind - but it might be worth asking yourself if 1) it would make more sense to stick with one game - and, if not, 2) whether you're entirely ready for Kirac's Pass. Because to be blunt I don't think goals that are, realistically, perfectly obtainable for you if you choose to prioritise reaching them should be taken away from others to accommodate your choice not to play for ~half the league and then complain about having run out of time. It's up to you to decide whether you want to sit out much of a league, and it's up to you whether you want to make purchases that are dependent upon your ability to devote a certain amount of playtime to the league. And in terms of buying Kirac's Pass - like I said, you can wait until the day before the league ends and ask yourself "would I be happy with the rewards I have unlocked?" I would sympathise and be more inclined to argue in favour of changes if you had started playing soon after Keepers launched, had done everything in your ability to make progress against Kirac's Pass, and come up short. But I don't want the game I play to be changed because you have twice now made a combination of decisions that are distinctly antisynergistic and are seemingly not interested in doing anything differently in future. It is reasonable to ask that the game accommodate your ability. It is not reasonable to ask that the game revolve round your personal circumstances and decisions. tl;dr: The design of Path of Exile should not ultimately revolve around someone who is broadly unintereted in playing it. That is not fair on those of us who mainly or exclusively play PoE 1. Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support. Hey thanks for answering!
My experience with phrecia was the first phrecia, not this spring. I decided to switch to poe during that event but was unaware of when it ended and what would happen then. I played and got into early mapping when it ended. Shortly before that i got a popup banner that asked me if i wanted to buy the kiraks reward ladder. I happily did this thinking it would be a simple thing like a battle pass in other games. No information about ladder end or phrecia event ending was given. After a week owning the pass i realised the nature of a league within league. When phrecia wen over inte regular kalguur i was left with a specific build and gear built around phrecia ascendancies. So my mapping ability tanked. I had trouble with lvl 1 maps. This information wasnt readily visible to me, but sure i could have said to myself, wait a minute bud dont buy that battlepass before you research whether your actually playing a league within a league that will change drastically in two weeks. Foolish and unfocused of me, i know. All in all yes i could do alot of research beforehand planning my gaming like a pro, git gud go all in autistic i just didnt realise it would be like that when i bought a battle pass. You are right maybe this game and its reward structure isnt for me, maybe it is for the long initiated serious gamers that plan their gaming months ahead. Maybe gggs businessplan is regurgitating the same playerbase since season one. Im just venting my disapointment from twice failiure My more concrete pushback is: 1) information about the kiracs pass conditions and ”available time frame at moment of advertising popup” not being available at purchase (including my gripe about my ascendancy going poof a week later) helping people like me abstain from buying. At the very least they could add information regarding this battlepass beign demanding, needing recommended amount of time, and recommending abstaining if low on time. And 2) i do believe letting a bought Kiracs pass follow a character to standard league would help alieviate unneccessary punishing stimuli that might lead to player attrition. I do believe the game itself is fun, but if i dont want to pay for mtx products (due to extinction through disapointment) then ggg gets less money. |

If you want to succeed at something you cant quit after a couple of failures. This game takes years to learn to play "effectively" Especially if you dont have the time to keep up with youtube crap.
I got lucky an old friend from WoW liked to keep an eye on all of the new stuff in poe while i was first starting to play and he taught me 99% of everything i learned the first couple years. If its of low value to you dont buy the battle pass until you can reliably get 30+ challenges in the league. If you're still struggling you can join a guild that may have people that will share challenges with each other. Or at the very least explain to you how to obtain them yourself. Most everyone in my guild is between 35-50 years old outside of a couple 25 or so year old kids. |

Yea thanks for replying as well, off course youre right, if my interest in the game sticks ill surely ride it out.
Im just trying to give feedback on my experience with their monetisation. I like engaging in mtx hunting and do see the value in rarity of mtx due to time limits or effort limits. Its just been annoying that i got hooked inte poe as i percieved it through a ”mtx for both games (poe 1/2) angle”. But that for me that combination, having time for both games, especially with the bad communication on dates, erudite nature of poe 1, general effort level and so on has given me a less positive experience than id hope for. The advice to go with a guild is a solid one, i might go that route if i stick with this game! |

Just don't give up because of challenges/kiracs pass. It took me multiple leagues to start chasing challenges and now that i do it gives me a lot of work to complete once i have most of the builds i want to play settled.
If you can't find a guild, reach out to me and you can join us. We usually start in a private league for 10 days or so and i go to hc or hcssf but 4-5 guildys usually continue on in sctrade and sometimes i do myself if i want to play a build with saviour. (its unobtainable reasonably in hc.) The guys do the weird challenge trading that require multiple different atlas trees to get one challenge done. |

Thanks thats very kind of you. Ill keep that in mind and might get back to you on that!

Challenges may be hard, but there is a reason they're called challenges, also you have several months to do. Please, don't ask to make them easier as it'd be diminishing of the 'prestige' of doing all the challenges each time. A lot of people care.
The kirac pass itself is absolutely trivial, doing all the maps should be a process that takes you a week at most, which it's my time playing 1-2h day. Follow a build guide if you're new. |

Yea thanks for replying. as i said i can apreciate meaningfully rare rewards. Im not asking for them to change achievs i just remarked that i found the scale of them bizarre, and that was in the context of me struggling with the other mtx from the kiracs ladder as well.
Those features together added to sense of going nowhere with mtx available beyond twitchdrops and store. Its reassuring that one could manage the ladder in a week. I have a build close that ive moved close to a couple of PoBs ive seen online this week, that can now clear t15 and 16 since a few days back (white maps mostly) but dying a bit to frequently. Ive got probably a 80 or 100 maps to go guessing on my visual ladder. Ive gone for my own map drops but i guess i need to stop investing in the build and go all in on buying maps targeted. I might give it a final shot with the time i have this week |

" You can easily complete all your maps without doing a bunch of trading, the bonus objective for white maps they need to be blue, yellow maps need to be rare, and red maps need to be rare and corrupted. If you're dying doing corrupted rare maps you can augment alt until you have an easy mod, regal, then vaal it for a 2 mod corrupted rare map. |
