For a rare shield, you would want something with life, high armour, some res, block % and a blank slot to craft PDPS. If not, Lioneye's Remorse will be superior.

Yup ... that's the answer ^^ Though i would probably skip the physical for an armour mod ...
The perfect shield for me would look like this :

Pinnacle Tower Shield
Armour : 2127 (406 base )
Block Chance: 31% (25% base )
---------------------------------
+99 to maximum life
+400 to armour
120% increased armour
30% chaos resistance
16% all elemental resists
6% additional block chance

Will the talisman amulets in the league be deleted or disabled once the characters get ported over to the perma standard league? Can we use em on standard? lol

When your league character ( in this case your talisman character ) gets transferred ti standard all of the gear goes with him/her including league only items ( like talismans )

Thank you for the guide! Easily one of the best guides I've found for this game, and I spend way too much time on the forums. I read the whole thing btw, people complaining that it's too long is hilarious. There's tons of useful information. So far this character is a blast, but I guess that's to be expected with how overpowered facebreakers are during leveling. I'm just about to start cruel difficulty and I had some questions about the gearing progression.

How much should I be looking to spend on the rare amulet/ring/boot slots? In talisman league that is. I got a lucky exalt drop so I bought a 5l daressos, nice abyssus, meginords, 750% facebreakers, lioneyes, saffels all the uniques. I bought some cheap jewelry and boots for a chaos or two each just so I'd have capped resists in merciless while I'm starting maps.

This crap:
.

I have 30c or so leftover to spend, should have more than that by the time I'm done merciless. Just looking for some advice on how to efficiently upgrade these shitty rares to some good ones. What to search for on poe.trade, how much I should expect to spend per slot, which stats to prioritize to keep budget down, etc. Also how the hell do you balance resists? It was easy when I was only paying a chaos per piece, just buy something and adjust on the fly lol. Thanks!

Edit: I just realized I can add mods to my gear with the masters, that should help hitting resist cap heh.

Well i must admit that i rarely trade and i can't say what to expect to pay for a good rare ring or boots with 100% accuracy ( though i'll try ) but what i can say is what to look for.
First of all buy the boots - search for boots with 30% movement speed at least 75 life and two resits with at least 35%, make sure that you can craft the third type of resist on them, do so and you'll have pretty good boots to run around with. After a quick poe.trade search those go for 10-30c.
After you get the boots unequip your rings and amulet and see what total amount of resists you need to get to cap your resistances. Search for rings with the mod "Adds #-# Physical Damage to Attacks" and in the min put the number "10" , also look for rings with at least 65 life, do the same for the amulet but for the physical damage mod type "20". Now with just these 2 mods these items are very cheap ... up to 1 chaos orb, but of course the price will go up when you add resists into the equation. Don't look for triple res rings and amulet ... those are expensive, hell even rings with 1 good rolled res and an implicit res mod could be enough when you master craft a second res on them. Do the math before you buy any rings or amulet though.
I'm not sure if this post helps ... but hey ... i've tried :)

That was very useful, thanks. I'll get the boots first.

I just got these for one chaos, seemed underpriced so i bought it quick. Think its worth 4 linking or should I find one with more resists?

Edit: I decided to not be a cheap ass, these ones were really good for the price compared to everything else I found

Paid 20 chaos in talisman, how did I do boys :P

Edit again: lol you can't craft fire resist on those, I got ripped off ;)

what is the stat i would value the most on a shield

defense (lets say +300)
res 80 all res combined
life 60
free slot for block chance
free slot for + phys dmg

@xSJx
Ah many sorry to hear that you've got ripped off ... next time check if you can add another suffix (or if all 3 slots are taken .. in this case the life regen is the third suffix ) before buying.
And btw the first boots are not that bad.

@unlucky_child
From most important to least important ( in my opinion ) :
Block ( because block is the most overpowered defensive mechanic in PoE )
Armour ( because your shield IS your biggest armour contributor )
Life ( it's life ... do i need to explain )
resists ( you can cap and even overcap your resistances with a shield with resists thus it is not needed, but if you can cap your resists without it is a life saver, and having resists on your shield makes getting cheaper rings easier )
flat phys ( the flat phys is nice but it's simply not needed, you get more than enough flat physical damage from your amulet, helmet, rings and belt, it's just that everything listed above is more useful )
