The -15% exp penalty is obnoxiously bad outdated design.

This genre is meant to be a grindfest hack n slash. If you don't like that then you shouldn't be playing it.

And the fact that you can't handle the difficulty and keep on dying means that the game is challenging / difficult. If you expect it to be any different then you really shouldn't be playing this kind of game in the first place.

How I've started handling the XP loss is to seperate levelling from killing bosses and progressing with the game. I farm easier mobs to level up, then go to fight the bossed expecting to die multiple times. It doesn't make the game any less enjoyable for me.

No death penalty would give the default ladder even less meaning than it has now.
What geniusly creative ideas do you have for added difficulty to the game in later difficulties? You're bitching about %15, and that's an easy fix. The servers have problems that are being addressed. NONE of the problems are EEEEEVER on the player's end. Every single player with a problem has perfectly configured setups by themselves (super elite computer and networking specialist) or some relative or friend (super elite computer and networking specialist). None of your problems can ever be traced back to some fault on your end.

About like people getting muted in chat for "no reason." Or, here's a good one: People working from home that have the latest computer softaware setup by a super-elite-computer-and-networking-specialist that is lagging and can't work while running torrent software, WoW, iTunes, Steam, Skype, AIM, Facebook games, Yahoo Messanger, Windows Messenger, quibids, viewing Ebay, with 8 computers on their connection while adjusting their crotch. Then they come on random forums complaining of rubberbanding, dsync, lag, and the failure of their poorly optimized and overall crappy character that is the most elite creation in gaming history. The person that created the monstrosity of a character design is probably the same being that perfectly setup whatever Mindspring network they are lagging on.

So am I the only one who came in expecting this to be a satire of all the "Loot is outdated design" threads?
If I have two fish, and you have three fish, how many fish do we have?
None. These are MY fish.
No, resurrect timers, durability and repair costs are obnoxiously bad outdated designs. The -EXP design works fine.
Funny how a game where everything is outdated is vastly better than every casual friendly game out there today.

And who wouldnt have expected a game made by a company called 'Grinding Gear Games' to have been a grindfest?

If you want a casual ARPG there's torchlight 2 and Diablo 3.

I love the xp penalty LOVE IT!

It gives me a reason to play softcore. Makes it harder because you know if you die it's going to sting like hell. Before this game I usually stayed hardcore only period because I needed something to get the blood pumping a bit more.

I plan on going hardcore but I'm waiting for the desync issues to chill out a little bit first.

Anyway do not do away with the xp penalty.

You know what's obnoxiously bad and outdated? The attitude of people who have been the cause of the general dumbing-down of games in recent years. People who's first thought is to call the crybaby hotline instead of thinking about how they failed so they can improve. Some of us actually want our games to be challenging. You casuals have enough games you can go play, like Hello Kitty.

I believe the purpose of a Beta is to test the game out on as wide an audience as possible and change things that don't work before the full release, whatever they are. I am pretty sure the developers WANT as much feedback as they can get from as wide a range of players as possible. To think that some fundamental aspects of the game will not change as a result is to miss the point of a Beta.

Just saying. I like the difficulty, and the Exp penalty.
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

I have to agree with this. I much prefer the exp loss to broken gear, repair bills and death penalties, those punish you far much more than a simple EXP penatly does, yet the developers of such game market them as having no boring grind.

Yet if you keep on dying in GW2, you end up completely broke in terms of both your gear and your in game currency from the repair bills. If you die in PoE, you have no negative effects taken to your character, just XP loss, and you can jump right back into the game without worrying andout repairing your gear.

Im sure this has been posted but im too lazy to read all the post in this thread. The minus exp is also for the ladder to stay competitive. Atleast thats what I think. *shrug*
