The new gem art just looks messy
Cold snap is shaped just like a skill gem. I don't get what you mean.
Fork, chain, LMP, GMP, Projectile Speed, all things that modify projectiles have unique shapes but are recognizable both for this fact and the fact that they look nothing like active skills. Item Quantity is still just round. EDIT: I think you missed a bit that I added later in my last post, so here it is again.. You might also notice that skills of a certain type are similar. Cleave is similar to Ground Slam. Minion Life is similar to Minion Speed. Ranged Totem is similar to Spell Totem. Abilities that modify projectiles like chain and GMP have very distinct shapes, making them easy to interpret. Once you've gotten over your own pretentiousness (no offense) you'll realize that not only can you easily ID a skill, you can ID a skill's type by the new shape as well. But, if it helps to break it down, 90% of support gems appear to be ROUND. Last edited by teacherpeter#1699 on Feb 13, 2013, 8:13:58 PM

" Its still circular enough that when you are looking at a whole page of gems, its hard to distinguish " See above |

" Well, let's compare side by side and see how much it stands out. Now, in my opinion, Cold Snap looks just like all the other gems in its immediately apparent shape. It still fits the scheme, I think. I really cannot see any roundness to it at all. |

" Thats because you are not looking at it in a grid form as you do when you have inventory The human eye is not robotic, it changes a lot of things and meshes things together to either make things stand out or to help us ignore details (intentionally). In the grid form in the actual inventory, because the gems are both smaller and smashed together, its harder for them to pick out |

" Those gems are gorgeous, as are the rest. I love the new art and have had no problem telling them apart in my stash. Nothing new to add, I just wanted make sure GGG see that there's people who like the art as well as people who don't. |

" You are incorrigible lol. By the way, I looked at Cold Snap in my stash to link it here. Still easy to identify for me, and nope, it didn't look round like a support gem, either. I can accept that we all have different tastes, but come on man. Don't make excuses and lies just to try to avoid conceding a point in an online discussion about a new feature in a free to play game. " Amen, brother. Last edited by teacherpeter#1699 on Feb 13, 2013, 8:42:18 PM

I love the skill gems, but the support gems need more uniformity. Right now, they're all over the place, and some of them just looks bad. Keep their basic spherical shape, and add gilded patterns to it, like with the skill gems. I really don't get why they decided to completely change shape of some of them.

In my opinion, as a user, I feel that visual communication of the skill gems should convey the following, which should be good enough:
1. Based on Socket Colors: Strength Oriented (Red), Dexterity Oriented (Green), Intelligence Oriented (Blue) 2. Based on Shape & Textile: Projectile (Triangle), Attack (Invert Triangle), Melee (inner triangle textile), Bow (invert inner triangle textile), Support (Round shape with any of the above combination) and so on. For example, Projectile + Attack will look like a star shape gem (triangle with invert triangle overlayed). Attack with Melee will have a triangle gem with inner triangle textile and so on. This will make the gem less messy, easier to be designed, extensible, and easier to be identified. The art to denote 'skill' is not necessary. Just imagine when the skill type is increasing, what would happen to the messiness of the art? But the gem's types, such as projectile, support, attack etc. are quite constant and fixed. It should be enough for us to organize them nicely in the stash to streamline the 'skill type'. The gem icons are small in nature, there is not much we can do for such detail level, but capable of showing socket type and gem type should be good enough. Skill type is not necessary. What do you think? " Actually at the end of the day, how people perceive the gems in their stash is all that matters, because the whole point of putting colors and shapes on the gems is to help classify them. You may not see an issue with them, but a lot of people (including myself) are, and unless I manage to steal your eyes or your the way your brain works, its irrelevant if its fine for you. Things like this need to be fine for the majority of the population using it |

" Agreed. So let's take notes and meet back here in a month. Sound good? (My point is give it time and see how you feel before flaming forums unnecessarily about change you'll possibly eventually grow to like/accept) Last edited by teacherpeter#1699 on Feb 13, 2013, 9:51:34 PM
