With Freezing Pulse + LMP, Ice Wall + Increased Duration, Ice Nova + Added Lightning damage, and Ice Spears + LMP + Faster Projectiles.

Couldnt do anything against Hailrake, Fetid Pool, or Flicker Mobs in Ghost Ship / Allflame quest on cruel difficulty, so I gave up on it and made a new 'tankier' ES character instead.

Note that at the time of making the build in OB, I had no clue that HP / ES were needed to win the game. I made the exact same frost templar in CB and had no difficulty anywhere.

You did it wrong.

Critical Chance is what makes Ice builds so powerful, not % cold damage nodes. Because you can freeze/slow lock all your incoming enemies. You need a ton shit more critical chance.

What distraction you where using? what crowd control? also tell us a bit for your gear.

That's not the current problem yet. We are still waiting the distractions he used,the way to keep the enemies from hitting him.

Ever thought that this could be the reason they made the game more difficult going into OB, because they saw time and time again in races people speccing full DPS and just rolling through the game like they were playing Candyland.

And currently you can spec fully into HP and defense and just roll through the entire game like you are playing in candyland. And that is any different how?

Didnt have those yet, I was waiting for the Spell Totem reward which was much later in the game.

People don't use Ice builds for the damage, they use it for the crit to continue to do damage so they don't get WTFPWNED. When you crit, you freeze the enemy. Thus, allowing you to continue to do damage. You needed to take critical chance right off the bat to survive and less damage - damage would be taken more towards mid-end-game.

Pure Ice builds are awesome, they're a lot of fun and are super effective...but it's because of the crit, not the damage.
