Let's talk Chaos Orb Farming

I farmed merv cruel in closed beta to acquire Chaos orbs and I had over 280 rarity and 200 Quantity with fillers.

Sometimes I had 12 Chaos Orbs in 1h other times I got 0, but in most cases it doesn't because you lack rings, amus and belts.

A faster and more certain way to acquire Chaos orbs is simply rush lvl 1 characters to Act3 and kill the white beast and do the spool quest.

Act1 takes around 7 minutes with 6 characters.
Act2 takes around 20 minutes.
Act3 spool takes 1 minute.

Result:
5 Belts 5 Rings each rush.

2 Rushes are are good way to acquire 10 chaos orbs. You only lack 5 unid amulets. And since corals and paua amulets are easy to create via rings you get 10 certain Orbs in 1hour while lower difficulty farming relies on luck.

the only thing i can find a problem is the incentive to give up on your roll on items (by identifying them) in order to get guaranteed reward (1 chaos more). I find it against conecept of arpgs .
Simple solution remove the bonus for unid items.
i made this now straight for 2 hours. i got several vault pages full of rare armor and weapons but only 2 ammyes and 3 rings.

thats not worth the time and effort.
Merv runs are not only about creating chaos orbs, the limited ring/ammy/belt drops mean that there is no point stashing everything unid'd and usually a single page is satisfactory. The overflow should be sold for Alts as well as having a regular Chaos page. This will net you the most currency all round.

Boss runs are a fairly consistent way to generate currency but the real winners are the folks who manage to stack mf & run high level areas where decent loot can be found as well. It's all good & well making a few chaos but if you find that GG item you suddenly made a lot more & banked some exp as well.

As for the double chaos recipe, I feel that because people can farm normal bosses where they know they aren't leaving decent items unid'd & still get obscene amounts of rares per run that maybe having the whole unid mechanic is unnecessary.
I would just like to point out to anyone unaware normal merveil is acually perfect for farming most useful low level uniques and chaos orbs becuase her level of loot limits the pool of unwanted items. She drops more ammy/belt/rings etc than any boss above her level becuase she only has a loot window of something like level 1-16 rings and belts and most of the necklaces are all around level 1-8.

being that she is far easier and faster to farm than brutus, and her quantity (because she is an act boss) is tuned to something like 4x more than a regular boss like hillock Merveil has proven to be the perfect farm boss for chaos/ low level uniques. I casually farm merveil without adrenaline pots etc. I kill the 2 or 3 unqiues bosses that usually lead to her chamber and merveil in around 1 min 30 secs sometimes faster. Her cavern is stupid easy to navigate and the rewards can not be outpaced by any other area.

I have compared her to cruel merveil and the normal merveil and it just makes sense.

you compete with one boss that has an item range of something like 1-43 and then another boss that has an item range of 1-16 if your main target is those hard to reach rare rings/ belts etc it's normal merveil every time.

happy farming
7 iron rings and a rare paua / coral ring will vendor for an unid rare amulet. You can also vendor 5 rare rings of the same base type for an unid rare ring. So all they need to do is to buy crap rings in bulk in trade channel for peanuts.

That's the only way I can think of that would make this kind of farming viable.

I don't see the necessity for using the rare necklace recipes at all unless you are really strapped for mats to use up your resources.

in 10 runs you usually have half if not all of the parts needed for a 2 chaos recipe from normal merveil. if not you have made enough alteration orbs even on bad returns for 1 and a half chaos orbs and possibly 10-20 alch shards for another alch orb

I say it is pretty efficient for a solo farmer with less than optimal rarity / quantity although it may not be balls to the wall amazing like a multiboxer or bot farmer. It churns out enough currency to be sustainable for one person casually or perhaps 2 if you really push farming the boss. the only downside after acquiring a portal gem is that it bleeds scrolls of wisdom which are as luck would have it easily to come by via trades in large amounts.
Considering this is the ONLY currently viable way for a Solo player to gather currency to gear semi-properly for end game, i tend to hope they dont remove it!

Diablo 2 had like several dozen way to farm, fast and efficiently, it was all about what the player found more fun.

Here we have Docks, Fellshrine, Ledge and boss runs for chaos.

If this is being abused by a dozen people, the correct solution isnt to penalize greatly all the others who use this method like it was intended to (to gear at slow pace). Officially stating that multiboxing is not allowed or giving player x option would aleviate this imo.

Ring/ammy drops are very low so you have to invest heavily in time and IR/IQ items to get some acceptable orb earning pace. Farming maps is still tons better, however since Maps DONT drop kind of at all it is ridiculous to cut this only possible way of gathering currency to progress!!

Hope sane judgement will prevail about this.

That's only true if you completely ignore trading. If you farm high level zones and id your rares you might find 1 valuable drop in every 30 (obviously made up number) and sell that for an appropriate price.

Sure, but 1) that requires you to farm higher level areas, which will slow you down, and 2) the trade system in PoE is currently garbage, and anything you find that's worth less than an exalt will require a massive time investment just to sell to another player.

The time spent posting on the forum, chatting in game, sending PMs, bumping threads, and meeting up in game for trades will easily make the process less efficient than just vending sets of rares.

You guys are weird.

Yeah, unid is dumb. HOWEVER, ID'd works just fine, just use some extra stash tabs to collect all the junk, build little sets, leaving spots for what you are missing. (I have 5 stash pages dedicated to this, 4 chaos sets each)

Also pick up good white ammy bases. For me, I only bother with gold ammy/onyx ammys. I hang onto those, and chance them, or maybe alch 'em.

If you chance it and get a rare, and it's total shit: Bam, your chance plus the other chaos recipe items just became a chaos orb.

If it's awesome, sell it!

Even if you use an alch on the ammy, you're still coming out ahead. I only do that when I have a good handful of alchs, and a shitload of full sets minus ammys.

This setup works great for me. Just buy some stash tabs for the space!
