Hacked Accounts

Your Path of Exile account has been locked because someone attempted to log in from a location that you don't typically play from - "Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China".

To play again, you'll need to type or paste the following access code into the game client after logging in:

WTF man.... China hacking the servers? I changed my password but they better up the security. No way they can just guess our passwords.

I had not logged in for a while and did not do any phishing scam or anything. So, are they reading the passwords off the server or what?

This is a typical reaction for an average user. I am by no means a hacker, but I have a lot of knowledge about hacking methods.

What they meant by that message was that a hacker tried to login to your account while using a proxy - basically pretending they're logging in from China but they probably live in U.S or something.

Nobody is hacking the servers.
I'm a new player trying to learn as much as I can about Path of Exile! Feel free to add me in game and socialize.
Well china got me too...
Didnt go to any sites, did not download anything or whatever,my pc is clean of any mw,viruses and so on.Oh GGG Delete this account and bye
Makes me sad reading all of the new posts with the same hack attempts. POE is truly a liability since chances are, you will get hacked no matter what.

If you want this fixed, just don't make any shop purchases until the devs do a better job at security. Plus I wouldn't want to give my credit card info to POE until I feel safe.
yikes
I was hacked my self about a month ago i just stoped playing but still checking back every now and then for new patches.

It is pretty sad but to me it still looks like the majority of compromised accounts are through malware and phishing.
I think with a real security loophole many more accounts would be cleared.
Well, finally got hacked and lost everything, ran my anti-viruses and malware programs, found nothing, and none of my other games are compromised in any way, my E-mail is fine..i just dont understand how it was done, let alone my PoE is on a seperate E-mail on its own as well. i'm stumped and apperently GGG doesnt do any recovery in any way so...i guess thats it for me

Someone IS hacking the servers or databases. I haven't played the game or anything related to it for 2 or so months, and someone from the same place apparently has my password. This is the ONLY game that got compromised out of like 20 games I play and the 7 or so email accounts I have, so it IS the GGG servers in some way. My account and email passwords are different so they never actually got to steal anything from me (or at least, according to the website character inventory thing), just locked my account. I'm wondering if unlocking it is somehow related to all these thefts, as I haven't unlocked mine and probably never will unless they know why this is all actually happening on a large scale.

Denying it is just going to make the problem never go away. GGG needs to own up to their mistakes and fix them or this game will die. It's really that simple.

Edit: Also, why would the hackers take the developer accounts? That would just make what they are doing stupidly obvious. This way, they have people second guessing and with the policies in place, cause the devs to brush it under the rug and pretend nothing is happening while they get away freely.

Even if GGG's servers are compromised, there should be no realistic way to recover your password from them unless your password sucks.

If someone was able to log into your account and actually steal something, there are other options to consider. Maybe someone's on your network and packet sniffing, maybe you're getting torched by remote access, maybe you literally just put some other nerd's usb device on your laptop and he's a dick.

I take it you missed the whole Sony/Microsoft/tons of other companies getting hacked and user accounts being compromised? It is easily possible and does/has happened. This is no different. GGG is just refusing to take responsibility for their mistakes.

Unless somehow hundreds of people are magically getting only this specific game's account compromised and no other games/emails/anything else...yep...has to be entirely their fault instead of the company running it. Grow some balls and admit mistakes. Sony lost billions, but at least they admit it was their fault.
