Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

Oh boy... Seems like the beginning of the end for Path of Exile...
Am disappointed it's a really good game and one i've been more than happy to financially support via MTX.

This raises grave concerns for me personally.

Any estimate on how long the game will continue to exist now? kinda wondering if i should try to get a refund on the packs i just bought.

You entitled "people" threatening not to buy supporter packs because feelings is what led to this. People need security to be productive and work towards a goal. Entitled millennial with attention span of 6 seconds, clueless to how the real world works can provide any sort of security.

I am a Trump voting Gen-X'er. I have the MAGA hat to prove it. Now that your first assumption is blown out of the water faster that Hillary Clinton's electoral dreams, we can deal with the rest.

"Security" is provided by maintaining the goodwill of your customers. This is generated by quality products, dealing with your clients in good faith on the occasions when the product is less than satisfactory, and instilling in your customer confidence that your company will hold true to its foundational philosophies for the foreseeable future - to protect their investments of time and money.

GGG under Chris Wilson provides those things currently. He thinks he can continue his record under Tencent.

"Grinding Gear Games (or GGG) is a Tencent owned video game developer founded in 2006 and based in Auckland, New Zealand."

I trust Chris Wilson and I trust his intentions.

But now you're asking me to "trust" the new owners, and I don't like what I am seeing of them one bit. The word "Owner" is important for a reason.

I am not asking you to trust the new owners, i am asking you to trust part of the owners in their decision and capability to make mutually beneficial deal. If they were selling out, they would have gave them 100% and left the company. Until Chris announces his departure you are just speculation and throwing a fit for nothing.

Also i do not know what Gen-X'er or MAGA hat is, i use the quotation on people not to cause extra work for the forum moderators.
It is unwelcome news.

In fact, Chinese companies are not permitted activities that do not meet the intention of the Chinese Communist Party.

I am concerned that the intention will gradually have a negative impact on players.

are you the designated shill for this hour or what's up because I see you trying to combat any post that does not shill this selling out.

I will say this one last thing regarding what you spout in each of your posts, yes chris was passionate about his game, it's normal, he made it along with a very few others. I don't know what your damage is but the facts are in, reals before feels. he sold his company ( 80% is a sell out not an investment, stop being dense on purpose ) and that's the end of it.

oh yeah I love my child so much but if you give me money then I'm ok to sell my beloved creation.

just stop.

where did you get your MBA from to come to this jaw dropping conclusion?

If I were in his place and could get lots of funding to improve and continue development of my baby for years to come, I would do the same in a heartbeat, no matter the screaming of cretins crying about "sellout" because this is how any business works in real life.

If GGG loses all its support, then PoE will die, or be morphed into a mess of p2w garbage so fast its own creators would fail to recognize it. If that's what you want, be my guest and contribute by not continuing support, because that's surely what will occur if the community ceases to support this game and its creators.

If I was a shill, I wouldn't have an alpha label, I just love this game. People need to take a chill pill. This game is awesome and on one hand it's amusing to see people wig out about this. But it's also a serious matter and people really just need to learn to trust these guys.
The title should be: "We have sold Grinding Gear Games to a Chinese mega-corporation".

If it's good for the game on not only time will tell.
However it just murdered the appeal to support PoE as an indie game.

Of course they need to make money, but they'd never make this large a decision without being very confident that it's best for the game and the community.

But you see guise, we'll have spring roll spectral throw mtx in no time, to say nothing of soup dumpling flamethrower traps. Just like how Xbox and the lab both ruined the game irreparably, and triggered everybody so hard they needed psychiatric help to get over it. /s

These days I'm getting more and more sick of this community, the sheep who infest it, and particularly the reddit hivemind. Every single decision gets thrown under a magnifying glass with declaration of how the game is ruined, no fun allowed, etc. that it's beginning to grate even for me.

I'll just openly say it - most of this lot are a collection of wishy-washy ingrates with trust issues. Money or no money, because GGG made a decision for the continued improvement of the game, suddenly "omg ggg y u sell out" and declarations of doom that PoE will die soon.

Guess what, without further support, that "soon" might arrive a lot quicker than you think.

Well said.

Though I might buy a spring roll spectral throw MTX, just for the sheer WTF factor lol.
Welp... this marks the end of my support for the company.
