Intense feelings about PoE's arachnids?

Spiders are great...outdoors. Just like a hair is fine...attached to my scalp.

Outside those situations..yuck.

I think we need MORE spiders. The big spiders should explode into many tiny spiders! And the small spiders should form up to make a GIANT spider, which in turn BURST into many tiny spiders!!! No? :D

I think you guys should really try to party before going into spider dungeons. I'd happily take out the whole dungeon when the guy im in party with tells me they have a phobia. I'd clear the level out and tell them if its clear. You could even state your case in gloabal chat, i'm sure some guys would help you out.

that's the spirit!

Never thought of it this way. I would gladly act as spider-killer

Yeah as long as there are not people evil enough to make town portal surrounded by thousand of spiders and saying "tp safe" it's a good idea :D

You guys are ridiculous. You play a dark ARPG with demonic forces and skeletons and witches, then you want to whine about how scary the spiders are???

Oh no, they're CREEPY! Change them; make them ice cream cones! Yeah, I can handle that!

Phobias are irrational fears. Don't be ignorant.

This is a dark ARPG. What if someone had a fear of dead people?

Well ... maybe I could see it if arachnophobia is a really strong issue, and there aren't any/many other phobias that would interfere with the playing of this game. Maybe I am a bit ignorant because I'm not so phobic of spiders myself. Sure, I'm afraid of black widows, but who isn't? But in this case, I dunno, it just seems that if you play a game like this, you should reasonably expect a game with spiders in it.

It'd be like if I played Diablo but had a phobia of demons. Well ... maybe that's a stretch. And maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about because I don't deal with this specific affliction, but this game is SUPPOSED to be creepy, right? It's even supposed to be scary, if possible ... right?

Maybe it just seems weird because people are complaining about all sorts of things that are just elements of a dark game like this. Dead people, not even visible nudity, blood... and now spiders.

It depends on the person and the severity of their phobia. Some people can see spider pictures, some people see a picture of a spider and flip out still. For me, a spider in D2 does nothing since they don't look very arachnid-esque in my opinion but a spider in Resident Evil 2 stops my entire playthrough since they look(ed) a little too real for my tastes. I imagine it is a similar situation to many people with arachnophobia in that there's a difference in graphical detail between a 2D spider and a fully animated 3D one.

While the whole, "giant spiders" thing seems to be very common in fantasy games I recall D1 never having them so it is possible to have a game excluding them. In this game, I don't find the spiders to be too bad for me but if this were first-person you can bet I'd not even be posting right now. I wanted to play Skyrim but seeing as large arachnids are common (and they seem to emerge from trapdoors which amplifies my anxiety/paranoia) I had to regretfully pass.

As for horror, I'd say that there's a horror I can enjoy and a horror I would rather not be apart of. The type of horror I enjoy is playing a game such as Silent Hill or Diablo 1 and having the lights off at 3 AM, home alone. The soundtrack, monster snarls, creates a great feeling of dread that momentarily unsettles me. Same with those "creepypastas" you read around the Internet. But when my horror comes from my phobia, it is not enjoyable for me or am I letting the atmosphere get to me/becoming immersed in. It's more that I legitimately do not want to play any more because parts featuring spiders do not give me a good horror vibe.

I don't know if that is thoroughly explained in creating a line in separating creepy/scary from phobia but it is not very easy to explain seeing as it is irrational to be scared of something I can easily crush with my heel.
While some complaints are silly in a game such as this, some I can definitely see as plausible because, let's face it, this game wouldn't be better or worse with/without spiders in it.
