Content Update 3.20.0 -- Path of Exile: The Forbidden Sanctum
Appreciate you saving me money this Christmas.
Basically just a wall of nerfs, again. Fix crafting. Give players power again on the high end. Buff other ascendancies to be good, don't nerf the good ones to be awful. Til 3.21 :( same think about it .... ggg dont like us having fun, speedruning, cyclone all content, minion one finger playstyle ... ggg u kill storm brand (my fav skill), now death aura, cyclone after legion its waste of time if its not coc .... soo u nerf coc and hexes.... ill wait one week before start 3.20, dont wanna waste my time like in 3.19.... but what's next undecember ? |

The removal of archnemesis, removal of loot goblins and the minor adjustments to the game are very well done. Also finally buffing melee a bit seems to be going in the right direction.
However I am really concerned with the league mechanic. Didn't lake of Kalandra clearly show how bad out-of-map mechanics are? If you don't introduce really juicy rewards like in Harvest, it's really not worth it to run the league mechanic out of the map. In lake of Kalandra you had to run about ten or twenty maps to get a good lake. But even then you would sometimes be getting divines from low tier rooms while just getting a few chaos from the high tier boss rooms. The lake was just really really bad from a game mechanic point of view. The design was definetely very cool and exciting, but the rewards were garbage. Now with the sanctum we will see new problems. And I think you, GGG, and also the players don't realise how bad the sanctum will be actually. Imagine being offered a mirror upon beating the sanctum in some reward room on the first level. Well, its really really really bad. As you said, the expectation to completely do a run for the first time is really really low. But getting that mirror offered means that we have to take it, even if we are offered some five chaos directly in that reward room. But then in the next room we will be beaten up by some random mechanic that we couldnt anticipate. Mirror is gone. Player is slapped in to the face. And guess what? The player might think that he will see the mirror reward again. So he keeps playing. Perhaps he'll see the reward again. Right before he mastered the rogue-like adventure and collected almost all the best relics. He accepts the challenge but right before the end of level 3 he fails. Again a slap into the face and another mirror gone. He keeps trying and masters the sanctum. Keeps playing for the rest of the league and never sees the mirror again. But guess what? That only applies to the 0.1% of players that can afford to play 10hours+ a day. Because to actually finish a sanctum run you need to do 30 maps. And you won't even get guaranteed divines. Compare this to the eldritch influence mechanic, where you get a guaranteed pinnacle boss invitation, which is about a divine. SO the league mechanic is actually worth less than doing regular poe-invitation farming. What are your thoughts here? And please, GGG, don't tell me: "Well there are also other reward types besides of currency...", do you really think I'm going to ID a bunch of rare armour drops that you give me? Even if all of the rare armours were influenced, I would probably not even consider IDing... And what other rewards you can offer me? More quality gems or perhaps some corrupted uniques? Guess what, Vaal temple map is still better. And what did you think about punishing players to opt for more defences than movement with the league mechanic? As you said, defences won't matter in the rogue like. Doesn't matter if you have 100k evasion or 1k evasion. You'll lose devotion anyway if you get hit. So you force all players to opt for movement. Movement and dps are all that matters in the sanctum. But regular poe needs you to invest into defences a lot. So this sanctum is really messed up in my eyes. It's probably even worse than the lake and not even worth being played. Let me give you, GGG, an advice: Stop with that crappy out-of-map mechanics unless you provide sufficient juice and very good crafting options. Probably it is best do continue doing in-map league mechanics for the next few expansions unless you want to do boat league. I think all we players agree, that boat league will be the best league of all the time. Also as a little side remark: You still have not fixed the item rarity/quantity issue. Item rarity is such an important stat that you want to have as much as possible. This limits build diversity so much.
