Blackjaw is a garbage boss, one shot mechanics shouldn't exist in any game.
Blackjaw attacks you off-screen. You are unable to see when the attack will occur, and the attack window between hits is too short to avoid the attacks from distance.
Boss health bar really annoying me in poe2. I can't see boss attack because of it. The triple strike attack is designed to circle the boss, but the file projectile attack prevents you from staying near him all the time. This is the final line for me, I'm done with the game, if we get buffs/nerfs I will come back. Chimera boss is also bad but at least it doesn't one shot you. Last bumped on Jan 11, 2025, 9:30:49 PM

I don't think I've progressed as far as you have so I don't know if Blackjaw is overtuned.
I will disagree though as "dodge-or-die" [DoD] mechanics are very popular and many people seem to enjoy them. I'm in your camp though in terms of the game I'm looking for. I'd like something similar to a D2 experience where, for the most part, you won't get one shot but you can still get killed if you bite off more than you can chew. As opposed to "artificial" (?) difficulty injected by DoD I'd prefer that just the basic good old combat is the challenge where the mix of spell casters, melee, ranged, and abilities that all "blue" or higher monsters can routinely have is what makes the game hard. Think of it as preferring death by a thousand cuts as opposed to -- well I mistimed my dodge roll didn't I :) |

I disagree, arpg is all about building your character, spending hours to craft better gear, getting right skills etc.
One shot attacks is just big middle finger to the player, what's the point of progressing your character when all your choices are just thrown to the trash. And I am targeting this boss specifically, earlier in the game there are also one shot attacks, but you can learn a boss pattern and avoid attacks. But this boss is just bad. You are suppose to use the pillars to block the range attacks of blackjaw. Took me 30 tries to kill him due to rng, but i did (got 1 shot a lot of time). This is the only boss until level 39 that i hated and took so many tries. The other one was the titan that you fight on a platform, random attacks with no real telegraph because of how the screen was placed, but i killed him in 5 tries (basically no hit run)

This is the first boss I hit that I'll say is actively bullshit. The hitboxes absolutely do not reflect the visuals for like half his attacks - they're like 2x larger.

Killed him 2nd try... I honestly had more trouble with monkey (that one took like 15). Go to a corner and circle around, the moment he breathes fire on the ground run the opposite corner, fire wont reach you.

" For the Silverback Gorilla I found standing just literally point blank next to him, attack, then roll behind was key. He only ever did his easy to dodge, low AOE attack for whatever reason (I'm a ranged char, but a lot of melee bosses can be cheesed like this I'm finding). The hitbox on his triple swing is silly, you can dodge and be clear and it still hit you and seems to one shot

" Fought him earlier, it's just a bit BS perhaps. You can stand behind the pillar... if you're near it. But that is some seriously rough damage for a gigantic AOE that hits across the arena and you can't really react to unless you know it's coming out of trial and error. |
