Blackjaw is a garbage boss, one shot mechanics shouldn't exist in any game.
I got rolled by blackjaw bad and had to come back to him. Yeah, the ranged slams are ridiculous. If the first one doesn't kill you, it locks you in for the second one.
Dodge-or-die gameplay would be fun if the dodge were less clunky but I feel like a lot of boss attacks have hurtboxes just slightly too big, so a lot of dodges that look like they should save you really don't. Or maybe the dodge is just too slow compared to a lot of attack combos. What they've made is just a bit too clunky for dodge-or-die fights to feel good. |

I don't think I've ever played a game where there's absolutely NO one-shot ability though?...Maybe Poker?

This boss is hot garbage. Slam attack has a greater radius than roll distance and tracks like crazy. Fight starts to lags so much after the second attempt that I have to restart the game.

i thought he was a bad boss until i stopped being dumb. When he does the circle of fire is when he will do the fireball barrage for you to get behind a column. When he does his triple slam its one slam then he combos the next two so your dodge should be towards the end of the combo no the beginning. Taste flame he usually does a very avoidable running slam. He is only hard if you ignore his tells.

This is my first post in the forum and I found this thread thanks to Google.
OTK mechanics should not exist and Blackjaw sucks as a boss. Doing it as a ranged character was a chore and detracted from my overall enjoyment of the game. |

my big problem with this boss is the hitboxes. not only is it bigger then it looks it comes way too fast so once you see him attacking and most of the time you have no way of avoiding it. i tried dodging in every direction and it doesnt matter. and it hits me like 70% of my hp.

I fought this boss as a projectile character who could not tank his Sunder attacks, so trust me when I say this is a skill issue. Before I figured it out, he killed me about 12 times, which is more than ANY other boss in the entire campaign.
You just need to learn the fight, the moment I realized how his combos actually work and what I should be doing to dodge them I beat him in a single attempt. Good luck! Edit/Addendum: " Yep, this exactly. Me too XD Last edited by ARealLifeCaribbeanPirate#2605 on Dec 11, 2024, 9:53:08 AM

Killed it on 2nd try on my first playthrough, and first try on subsequent playthrough.
And no, one shot mechanic should exist. If you see someone yelling and signaling "IM GONNA HIT YOU SO HARD, YOU ARE GOING TO DIE IN 1 HIT IF YOU TAKE THIS HIT. STAND AWAY OR DODGE IT (or do the intended mechanic to stop the attack)" , and you stand still and just dps-ing then took the hit, you deserved to be one-shotted. I can also confirm that this boss is well overtuned. I am not sure what GGG's fetish is with overtuning things.
Anyways, Blackjaw's attacks are translated horribly (must like other bosses) and the attacks hit in a bigger area than what they should be hitting. I have found some attacks to be near impossible to avoid due to this. With Blackjaw in particular, you cannot roll fast enough to avoid the three hit combo, meaning that you are forced to take the last hit. Also, it is worth noting that the pillars do nothing in blocking those smashing attacks that fly across the screen, which is both unusual and disappointing. It is also worth noting that I did manage to beat him after multiple tries, but it involved having to be extremely meticulous and chugging the potion every time he hit me with an unavoidable hit.
