Jamanra the Abomination made me quit the game
I feel this is a build/progression balance problem rather than a boss in need of nerfing as the fight has decent mechanics & can be quite fun/fair as is (my only pet peeve are mobs standing in their own AoE's which includes this boss with his tornadoes).
Some builds need buffing, many builds need nerfing (to achieve a vision of actually engaging with mob mechanics) & item/node affixes need to be revisited to reduce extreme differences in power if the goal is to avoid one person sleep walking through the same fight that is a 15 minute slog for another. |

I struggle understanding these posts to be honest.
I do not have many hours in POE (under 100) and was VERY far from understanding literally anything at all. In POE 2, I am playing a lightning Monk (not my favorite but I decided to go with something simple / obvious in terms of the nodes) and my build is entirely my own. I didn't look up any guides, I didn't copy anything for my passive tree, I just selected stuff as I went on surrounding a few topics I decided on and tried crafting better gear whenever I got orbs. I am watching guides in order to learn stuff (like how to identify good items, crafting tricks and stuff like that) but I am not copy pasting anything at all. It was a hard boss as are quite a few others but I beat him. I'm now somewhere in act 3 with just a bit under 100 deaths. So either I just got lucky with my random build and others didn't or it's once again people failing a boss 5 times thinking it's for sure bad game design. And considering I have 100 deaths, I don't think that massively speaks for my build, lol. The first time I'm actually a bit stuck now is with the Trialmaster. I can beat room 3 but room 4 with the boss is where I fail. And I fail so early that I realized it's not worth to continue trying with what I currently have equipped. But I don't see why I should now complain that the game is too hard, I really don't. The game presented me with a problem and I will try to solve it by farming orbs and then either crafting better gear or trading for it. I guess if I'm still failing it in 2 weeks I may start complaining as well but until then I see tons of ways to improve my monk. If anything, I would criticize that the currency drops are still a bit low and I consistently lack currency to craft / trade. Or maybe that running an 80 hour campaign every single time may be a bit too much. But that's about it. Anyways, everyone's experience is different. Yeah the only legitimate complaint about the game I accept is the trials. I currently just got to end game and haven't even had a drop to try to get my third ascendancy. And when I do I know its going to be annoying.
They really need to fix trials
" They seem to have boosted currency yet again - at least I am finding way more than yesterday. The campaign won't be 80 hours. That's our first time. I have every class in act 2 now and the last characters took slightly more than one hour and a half to get through act 1. Once you know the bosses and what to look for in each region ... |

" Eight levels!? Wow!... Doesn't mean your gear and build don't suck. I got stuck on him too till I went and made better gear.
" I guess you trade? Because if you play SSF, you are either one exceptionally lucky guy or extremely masochistic. Since - unlike PoE1 - you cannot over-level as much, the gear becomes much more important. And if you only get bad gear ... I did a comparison with my rangers. Once had decent gear, the other didn't. The guy with decent gear rolled through the end boss in act 1 in under 2 minutes. The one with bad gear died 6 times and finally managed it with 7:30 minutes. If you start to nerf stuff, the guy with the bad gear won't stand a chance. And his chance for gear drops the higher his level gets and the penalty of the high level kicks in. This would force bad gear guy to trade - which is not possible in SSF. Be very careful what you wish for. Just look at record delve depths between trade league and SSF league in PoE1 to get an idea of the power difference. And that's PoE1 - in PoE2 gear has a much higher influence. That's the thing which a lot of people don't want to understand or get.
This game forces you to become better, to grow as a person, to be a better player. People want for the campaign to be easier, someone in this thread said something like "endgame should be for mastering the mechanics, not campaign". How does that work for PoE 1? I fully agree that the game should explain the importance of resistances better. But I did ring swapping on my monk and melee merc, had no issues with the normal diff whatsoever. My biggest problem was drowned city on cruel tbh, god how I hate those damn hags. Point being, you need some attitude adjustment. You can't treat PoE 2 as a standard arpg game, it clearly has souls like mechanics and feel to it. Wanting to change the game because of the skill issue, that's just lame asf. I know 6 more people that never played PoE 1, from those only 2 guys played Diablo 4, all are loving it. They encountered a lot of those annoyances, but instead of tossing themselves over and over against the barrier in hopes that it will get easier, they took a step back and evaluated the situation, each coming up with their own ways of getting past it. I'm rambling here, excuse that. Nevertheless, just get good :> |

This boss annoyed me for a while too, then I realised I had no runes slotted, low resistance, wrong support gems and zero quality upgrades to any of my gear. Being relatively new to the POE franchise and coming in blind without any guides it has taken me a while to understand how to engage with all of the games systems. Today in fact I finally figured out that you can also improve the quality of your skill gems.
Anyway after making a whole bunch of changes and small upgrades I was able to chunk down the bosses health bar much more efficiently and get to P2 a few times before he could even throw out his storms. P2 was relatively easy until the portal knives phase where I died another 3 or 4 times because I had difficulty navigating the arena (another poster mentioned visual clutter and that's a good way to describe this fight.) Once I figured out that I could position myself to control where the portals would open I had much more room in the arena to chunk him down until he was dead. My only gripe with this boss other than the visual clutter is why does the second phase need so many overlapping mechanics. Playing as a warrior I found it quite difficult to get a chance to attack at times when all of the mechs were going off one after another. For an Act 2 story boss this feels a little extreme. Even soulslike games offer a window where you get a chance to punish the boss, which can punish you if you get greedy. POE2 doesn't have this type of window on any boss. |

Is he really that bad? I had way more trouble with the act 1 boss than the act 2 boss.
And before someone comes in swinging saying I blasted him with an OP build, I've beaten him with a warrior that had trash damage output and only 10% or so lightning resist and it took a solid 5 minutes to beat him down. Most of his attacks don't do all that much damage, the ones that do are heavily telegraphed. Getting nicked by the occasional attack shouldn't be a cause for concern. The worst part for me was learning where I could safely stand in phase 1 when you have to go hide from the wind, since there's no clear visual clue as to how far away from the NPC you're allowed to go. I guess difficutly is relative, and some of it's going to come from how long it takes your chosen build to mature too. I've taken him out stupid quick with a minion witch and a sorceress, doing it with the warrior made me actually have to learn the attack tells. Last edited by Cenerae#4481 on Dec 17, 2024, 5:46:53 PM

I really appreciate the difficulty for the bosses at the end of each act, it cements their importance in the story and does really better prepare you for what's next.
With the dodge roll learning the boss mechanics is very much needed, use the lack of penalty on death to learn and progress the fight. Figure out what to do and you'll have a much better experience, that and stacking whatever resistances you can find is never a bad idea either. |
