Every single person i know personally that plays the game is somewhere in the campaign. Some rerolled characters mid campaign or at the end of the campaign. Not one of them is even close to end game. From the players i helped that ended on my friendlist half dont play anymore and only less than half of the remaining ppl are even at the lower end of maps.
About the complaining. Of the reviews for players over 100 hours (which put alot somewhere into the campaign) 72% are positive. So much for the complaining part.
Not meaning to repeat myself but casual players dont last long in most games especially not games like poe, now GGG made it quite clear that poe 2 was going to be harder than its predecessor and even though its a bit more accessible to new players it was clearly made for the more hardcore arpg gamer which also tends to be the ones that stays for many years.
I have quite the opposite experience from u and i dont think anyone from my friendslist are stuck in campaign, in fact most of them are above lvl 90 and working on their 2nd or 3rd char by now
Hard games and casual players are not crossing out each other. There is a reason why some hard games have high sales. I also have players on my list that where 90+, they all left 2 weeks ago. Of course experience will differ and i only mentioned this to point out that quite a number of players might still be inside the campaign or shortly after. And ofc alot of players sadly dont participate in the forums so we dont know what their experience or issues is.

Not always but poe was never a casual game and GGG is not known to put sales over gameplay. This is not Blizzard trying to milk every cent out of their old IP's just to make profit before they die, GGG is passionate about the product/game and knows exactly what audience they are aiming for which also tends to be better in the long run since u cant satisfy everyone.

Sheesh... I'm listening and reading that "Blizzard will die" bravado since the first time Blizzard North was shutdown.
We're closer to an Overwatch 3, WoW to top MMOs for another 20 years, a Diablo V than a Tencent game didn't going down the gutter.

and why would I invest in defense if there's no punishment for death?

Yeah well Blizzard North was the true devs of Diablo ever since the current Blizzard/Microsoft took over the Diablo franchise its been a total dumpster fire. Now if u understood what i said correctly i didnt say Blizzard will die but their IP's in this case Diablo, D4 is a complete mess and player retention is at an all time lowest because of poor design, bad decisions and a hopeless attempt to please the casual player resulting in a hollow shell of a game with barely 70 hrs worth of gameplay before u are left with nothing to look forward to. To be honest its not even worthy of the name and legacy of its predecessors. Everything went into sales campaign and cinematics to sell the game while the gameplay just isnt there and never will be with the current devs and management

Because, dying constantly is frustrating and annoying, and eats up a ton of time.
"If they remove XP loss on death, then everyone will just die 500 times to get to level 100"
That's not what happens though!

that is what happens. xp penalty is good and necessary
improve your build and you won't die

There already is punishment: you lose all the map juice and boss, and whatever loot you didn't pick up. The player gets punished few times already, even without the XP loss there's plenty of reasons to invest in defense.

Cool, why don't you play hardcore then? It will give you even more reason to invest in defense. Softcore is for those that die sometimes.
