I've never understood people who like to play hardcore or who like death penalty. But that's their business, I don't care. In the same way, they shouldn't care that I like to relax in peace after a hard day's work by playing a video game.
Competition? What a joke. 99% of the time you play alone. Watch less twitch because streamers get money for it. It doesn't really matter to me which one comes first, because I only care about how I spend my personal time. I have enough hardcore in real life, why should I feel punished and stressed about some virtual world that I come to have a good time.
Do you need a challenge? Play hardcore, the game is already brutal enough. In Diablo 2, I was only able to reach max level once. Does it matter to me now? Not much. I only remember how many sleepless nights were spent and how tiring and monotonous the process was. Nothing pleasant. In PoE I played until maybe level 98, then quit, for the same reason. Otherwise, I might have played for years and spent a lot of money, because PoE is one of those few games where you really want to support the developers for their amazing work. I don't think I'm the only one who thinks like that, I think a good number of players think like that, maybe even the majority. At the end of the day, ask yourself who will support you if you mercilessly punish your players for every little mistake in this already merciless game.
When I saw the opportunity, I bought PoE2 without a second thought, hoping to find a different, much more enjoyable approach to the gameplay. And what did I found here? Even more brutal mechanics, even more punishments for the player, even less room for error.
It's not dark souls and it's not a roguelike and I'm not living in the 1980s. I recently showed a friend PoE and he and his son were very interested, but I can see them playing without understanding 90% of the game because the game mechanics are already complicated enough for a new player. Most of them would not even be able to make their own build without the help of the internet. Ask yourself how many of these players will remain when they face the true reality of the game.
Keep punishing until you punish yourself. I hope to be heard, and I hope I'm not alone. If not, good luck to you, there are much nicer things in life to spend my money on.
I never had read any content here in the forums mirroring exactly how i think and feel about the game(s). You truely found the right words and appropriate temperature to sum it up this way. And i am really thankful you wrote this. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you, my Friend. I felt exactly the same after reading yours. 98 lvl in standart FTW ;)
+1 Death penalty is just to add grind time to the game. The builds that reach 100 are probably the overworked push 1 button clear 3 screen worth of baddies 0kill the boss as they spawn - never have to do mechanics - I can't understand what they get out of the game- they certainly are not "playing" the game the rest of us are.

It sounds like you're saying the players who get to 100 are the ones who:
- Constantly improve their gameplay
- Keep investing in their gear until it gets super powerful
- Keep investing in their gems to get the max power out of them
- Figure out skill and passive tree combinations to maximize damage output, such that they can "nuke" the screen with a few clicks
- Figure out boss weaknesses such that they can drop a boss in a few seconds
Yep, those are the players who get to 100. As should be. You are correct.

No. He said you're making the easiest to play builds the game offer.

If by "easiest" you mean:
- The highest damage output
- Which was achieved by investing in your gear until it gets super powerful
- And by investing in you gems to get the max power out of them
- And further by figuring out skill and passive tree combinations to maximize damage output, such that you can "nuke" the screen with a few clicks
- And finally figuring out boss weaknesses such that you can drop a boss in a few seconds

...then yes, these are the easiest builds.
When the build lets you straight up ignore the games mechanics, it's an easy build.
All you've done is look up what some have found to have beyond broken scaling. Copy it and claim it as your own accomplishment.

"Look someone found a way to make wheels round, it looks more efficiente to move heavy loads."
"Nah... it is the easy way, let's keep our square blocks and slog, there is no challenge in use round wheels."
"Hey, have you heard they're using fire to cook, light up at night and keep dangerous threats way?"
"Yeah, but I prefer to eat raw meat, stay in the dark and brawl using packs of wolfes and cuddle with bears, fire is an easy way, there is no challenge in living safe."

I mean... he might not have looked up what someone else did and claiming he did only distracts from your point because it wouldn't matter and there's no need to bring it up. Regardless of where he got the information, the fact is that there was not a skill check involved and some people would prefer a skill check to a gear/build check. Obviously gear and build shouldn't be irrelevant, but the important point you were making was that a build that allows you to ignore mechanics isn't an expression of skill. If the challenge is merely a gear/build check, it's hard to consider that an achievement. It's hard to want that. The experience penalty really does seem irrelevant to me here. I like it, but it's not a challenge; it's an obstacle. There is still a sense of accomplishment in overcoming an obstacle, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not the primary challenge I'm seeking to conquer. It's just another obstacle I don't mind overcoming.
cause ViSIon!. Seriously this game have so much outdated mechanics its blowing my mind. Good thing is when i launch grim dawn after this BS, im in heaven
