The reason why XP penalty exists and why it's not for everyone

So making things too easy and overcasualizing games is bad after all? Thanks for confirming, I glad you finally changed your mind.

I never said I never played D4 just that you're funny for talking about xp loss when you haven't made max level or even finished 20/40 challenges in poe1 lmao. so probably not enjoying it like the rest of us ??? except you praise systems you don't even engage in

I’ve never made it to 100. I have like 3000+ hours in Poe 1 and never did it in that either. Still have a blast trying to see how far I can push my build into the end game, though. It’s not a gate to me, it’s an indicator that this is as far as I can push this build and still level up efficiently. At this point I have a choice, troubleshoot my build, and gear to see if I can overcome it, or try to make a new build that can. There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging your limitations. Its pretty important actually. League challenges also have no appeal to me, but that doesn’t mean I want them removed from the game. They can be there for the people that are into stuff like that.

There are players out there with big egos that don’t want you to get what they get, but this is a small minority of loud buttholes and they will always exist in some form or another. Not everyone has such dubious motives. Its a little presumptuous to assume everyone that finds value in having more variables in the game only wants it to screw you over.
XP loss will never be an issue in the racing game.

The best skill showcase is on Hardcore SSF only anyway. As for the top 50 softcore players, XP penalty won't ever be an issue for them eighter because they will come to the race prepared in a way where they will not die. All racers will always use the strongest builds and have a prepared game-plan from start to finish. And seeing how long it takes to get those last levels, ultimately the race will be always won by those that can put in the most time. If the race was a matter of hours to few days, then those XP losses here and there probably would be a factor in the race. Since the race is a matter of weeks (there are 8 ppl with lvl 100 at this moment, over a month after the release) it will be won by those that have the time to commit to it.

XP loss (along with the one-portal-per-map) is a mechanic that only targets the casual player, the "I want to learn the game myself, no guides" player and the "I want to test wacky stuff and see what happens" player.

POE 2 is a game with a lot of depth when it comes to possible builds and strats and it should encourage innovation and experiment. At the moment it strongly discourages those things.

XP loss will never be an issue anywhere. Except for the dummies who can't figure out that they not supposed to reach level 100.
Xp loss is just a dumb mechanic that wastes your time and makes you wanna ragequit the game.

If the devs care so much about this mystical race to 100 that 99% of players don't even know exists or don't care about, then how about only implementing exp loss in race events? How about disabling exp loss for the rest of the server once the first guy reaches lvl100 on ladder?

Better yet, remove it entirely from Softcore. Who cares about the Softcore ladder lmao people in PoE 1 get lvl100 on day 1 there. It's so meaningless, lvl100 isn't an achievement its either something you get by playing boring safe content for hours that's so monotonous you fall asleep or pay a few divines for exp carry services. Wow such skill.

This is a PVE game not some e-sport, get those hardcore mechanics out of softcore and do whatever you want in ruthless or whatever. But death penalties that waste people's time do not belong in Softcore, the same goes for 1 portal per map.

The xp penalty doesn’t solve any of the problems you say it will fix by removing it. Gettting to the endgame only to find out your wacky creative build sucks will have the exact same outcome. Anyone that finds their time too valuable to risk losing xp, is still going to value their time enough to avoid finding this out more than 1 time without it. They will do the exact same thing, google a better build that someone that doesn’t value their time enough to spend it finding out for them.

And btw, "forever" games are terrible for the games industry. Much better for players to keep buying and playing multiple games and having new and different experiences.

Nah

I'd much rather play a good forever game than constantly having to seek out and gamble money on games I might like but end up being flawed in a way I find unplayable

Was it ubisoft going down the "Netflix for games" route? A terrible idea that is the industry response to keep churning out short lived games

People waste their time themselves if the only reason they play the game is to get a lvl 100 medal for spending their time.

Yeah, especially when they are actively sabotaging their own fun by avoiding any risk, and blaming it on something else completely unrelated to their problem.

Dude not everyone wants to reach lvl100 or cares. They just don't want hours of their mapping exp to be deleted. Its that simple.

Would it really be such a big deal if people could passively reach 100 from doing maps for a month? No. It would only wound some player's egos because "muh achievement".
