People waste their time themselves if the only reason they play the game is to get a lvl 100 medal for spending their time.
Dude not everyone wants to reach lvl100 or cares. They just don't want hours of their mapping exp to be deleted. Its that simple.
It's the same — if people didn't have fun during those hours and the only thing matters for them is get 10% to their XP bar, then they throw their time in the garbage themselves. And if they had fun during mapping, that fun can't be deleted.

Would it really be such a big deal if people could passively reach 100 from doing maps for a month? No. It would only wound some player's egos because "muh achievement".
Will it be really a big deal if max level for players who don't want to learn how die less often would be lvl 90? No. It would only hurt those player's ego that they didn't get lvl 100 even though they played.

Just stop. This mechanic is undefendable. Exp loss is bad, this is an objective fact.

Just stop. This mechanic is great. Exp loss after lvl 90 is good additional challenge and this is objective fact.

Except it should be optional instead of everyone being forced to play with this trash mechanic. Do you know what that does to players? It makes them quit. Steam peak already down to 250k, 100k people have quit in the last 4 days. This game is dying because of these bad death penalties and other bad design lmao

If XP loss is soooo good, why don't we have it until level 70? Does dying during campaign teach you more than during the maps so you need additional penalty for maps specifically?
I think people should also lose levels. Because the penalty is suddenly not there when you are at 0% of a level. Maybe we also should have durability on gear, and each death should damage our gear by 10%. And when repairing the gear, there should be 10% of losing max durability so eventually gear breaks. But to counteract that we can introduce 'indestructible' affix and a rune that prevents durability damage. After all, item durability existed in D2 and that's the greatest game ever made.

Xp loss is just a dumb mechanic that wastes your time and makes you wanna ragequit the game.

Your first statement is in complete contradiction with the one that follows .
Would it really be such a big deal if your build peaked at 90? Since not everyone is into getting to 100 like you said?
No reason to be insecure about it and make it about someone else’s ego.

Except it should be optional
It is optional — you can stay at lvl 90 and not care about XP loss.

Playing this game is also optional. You can uninstall instead of having hours of your time deleted for no reason. And people are doing that, because its the best choice for their sanity and time. There are much better games out there that actually respect the player's time.

Yeah I was a bit shocked when first time saw how people on this forum completely contradict themselves in literally few sentences. But getting used to it :)
